75 Summarit now very affordable.

That's a great price. It's a very good lens, and a good pairing with a 35, but I tend to forget to use the 75mm frames. Didn't have this with the Summilux, so I'm guessing I'm being fooled by the small size. 🙂

congrats! awesome lens, and very compact. too bad you didnt wait a bit, mine will be up for sale here soon! good luck with it uhoh.

It's a really nice lens, but be careful if you happen to buy the screw-in metal hood and cap combo for it. I'm not sure if it's due to the 'leverage' that is induced when you try to remove the lens cap when the hood is attached, but the front lens assembly might loosen over time. I've had mine tightened at least twice, and it's still a tad wobbly. As long as you're careful when you remove the cap (maybe hold onto the hood when you pull the cap off), it should be okay. Nice sharp lens, and great for traveling.

TY for that tip Vince. I've had 28 cron and 21 SEM loosen and go to DAG for tightening, so I appreciate the heads up.

My version of Brian's fencepost 😉

Now at 5.6:

75 is not just 50 and a bit 😉

really a whole different medium. DOF even at 5.6 is tight with closer objects, and bokeh is often....well it's happening. So far, the bokeh exceeds my expectations. Very high contrast lens. Quite the colors:

Here with my subject in mid frame around f/5 this lens is in a zone were several reviewers thought it even bested the cron. Seems great at this range.

Calibration seems good. My first brand new M lens ever 🙂

I love it. Had to sell mine to pay taxes this year, but I'll probably buy it again. It's compact and light, with great ergonomics, and I've taken a lot of my favorite pictures with it, especially casual portraits.

Re: 75mm
I enjoy the extra reach without being too "telephoto-y"
Given the quasi-electronic nature of frame lines in the M240 and beyond...
I hope/'wonder if the "new 2016 M" might be able to offer selectable INDIVIDUAL frame lines.

That is - if you lens is either 50/75 and it auto-brings up the 50/75 framelines.. you could select to only show the 50 or 75 frame lines.. rather than both.

I must admit even though I have left my 50mm in drawn and shot heavily with the 75mm for the last 3 months, I quite often look at the wrong frame lines!

75/80 is the perfect indoor portrait fl for my eye. i also enjoy that fl as an occasional break from my normal street shooting fl. coming as i do from legacy glass, its so interesting to know that you can get wide open so close to the best a lens has to offer.

I don't think US 750 is "very affordable" with the two excellent CV alternatives available. Not saying one shouldn't buy/use that lens, but be honest to yourself. 🙂

his opinion, though different, is no more 'dishonest' than yours. the cv's are fine lenses, ive had the cv 75/2.5 and imo, the summarit has richer color and is sharper from at least 2.5-4. it also felt more substantial in my hand, and the focus ring gave me more preferrable feedback. those factors were worth the extra money for me, and for OP, and for many others, though perhaps not for you.

finally, an items relative expense has more to do with what it typically sells for in the market place. i bought mine for over $900 and comparatively i got a great deal at the time. so this price is well below 'market'. personal financial circumstances or opinions on already existing 'alternatives' are not relevant to finding a 'bargain' on that product when the market has already decided the usual price of that item.

I do like it paired with the 35mm. Sold the 2.5 version and bought the 2.4 version for the closer minimum focusing distance. Might end up trading it for Fuji stuff though...

1) Well, it turns out that Boris adds 20% VAT to the quoted US 750 for European buyers, ending up with roughly the US 900 that you paid as well. Do you know how much customs the OP paid ? And, BTW, most new lenses are cheaper currently when bought out of the US from Europe, even if custom fees are included in the budget.

3) I personally never sympathized with the Summarit lens line being called "affordable" (Leica did that from the get go). They are luxury goods (as is my Heliar, BTW), and "affordable" and luxury goods are oxymorons. Affordable is subjective. The OP can clearly afford both a Summilux and a Summarit. I rest my case.

Roland.

like the pictures....presumably on a digital M? Portrait pictures in snow and bright sun can often use some fill or reflector... but that is not M photography I guess. Harsh shadows etc, do convey the true sense of being there.
