Hi all, need your expertise.

I received the 75 Summilux today and this is what happens when i mount the lens to my R-D1s camera.

It seems like the focus ring on the lens is just a tab too thin to be able to engage to that focus tab on the camera.

When i have the lens set to infinity before i mount, then i mount the lens to the camera, everything works all the way down to closest distance, BUT as i try to turn back towards infinity, the lens seems to get 'stuck' as it doesnt want to turn smoothly, and if i keep going, then the focus coupling is off..

i check the lens and it seems just fine and very smooth, and i check the camera and it seems fine and works very well with my Voigtlander 40 and 75 lenses..

This is my only leica lens and i have no other Leicas to test

Please assist...

Thank you,

THis is new to me .... technicaly the 75 lux works normal om my R-D1.
It is a tough combination though .... focus will be a bit of a gamble beacause the RF base of the R-D1 is too short to focus the combination consitently reliable.
The issues you mention are new to me .. it should work fine just as every other lens!

i dont know either... as i dont have another M body to test out, so i think i need to stop by a pro camera store to get a M body to test out..

but in looking at the Leica lens compare to a Voigtlander lens, it seems the like the brass ring where it engages the camera is thinner than the Voigtlander lenses, thus it gets sort of stuck as i am turning the focus ring..

Erik,
I will hopefully be receiving my M4-P in the mail today, and if I do, I'll bring it in tomorrow for you to test your lens on. I'll let you know later this afternoon whether or not it has arrived.

yep, have your office and cell - I'll call you once I know that it has arrived and we can coordinate a time.

Very strange. The same happened to me, too. Just received the R-D1s today, and the 75mm Summilux does not focus well, too - the small RF tab of the camera seems to slip into the lens's coupling tube. This did not happen with the R-D1. I can only explain it that the R-D1s must have this tab lower than the R-D1. Are there other 75 lux/R-D1s users who could check that out?

I received this post from a LUG member cocerning the Summilux 75 / R-D1s problem:

It's a body-to-body problem with the R-D1, s or not. I had one lens that didn't work on the body I used, the 90AA. My 75 worked fine, as did my 135/4. Others have had problems with other lenses. The lenses that use the tab transfer rather than the cam in direct contact with the body cam follower have the problems occasionally. The body can be adjusted.

Hmm, just one more parameter to adjust on that camera... :bang:

Deed buddy,
For a guy who does not shoot with this camera (self professed not to use this camera due to it's many flaws) you spend a lot of time here- or did you change your mind regarding the R-D1?

Just curious- I got my replacement R-D1 back from Robert White and it seems to have very sloppy focusing to the point it lands on two different focus points depending on whether I start focusing from infinity or near field. If true I don't know what I'll do as I do not remember focus "slop" in my first sample.

Sigh,
Ted

"not shooting" is not really true. I decided (as posted here and here) to give the Epson a last chance, and accepted Robert White's offer to replace my defunkt R-D1 with a R-D1s (as Epson UK was out of R-D1).

So you'll have to suffer from my presence here even more... :D
