I need a 85 VF for my Serenar / Model P combo. My questions are:

1.) Will the CV 90 VF work OK? Do you recommend it over all the Canon types?

2.) How good is the early type ( beer can-shaped) Canon 85 VF?

2.) Did Canon make a later cone-shaped 85 finder? If so, is it better and more desirable than the early type?

Thanks,

Bill

Hello Bill, I have both a Leica 90mm finder, which is similar to the CV 90 bright line finder and the orignal Canon. The Leica 90 bright line is joy to use. The Canon on the other hand, is squinty, but is much more compact. Canon did make a later finder for the V-L and VI-L that was coupled via a rod rising from the accessory shoe to the finder to prevent parallax. I haven't used one of those.

Thanks--the CV VF's are so bright/ clear (I have a the 35), I think I'll get one. I'm worried about the early Canon ones being cloudy/ squinty. The later ones are too rare.
