This combo shouldn't have any secrets after all these years, but the info I find is a bit conflicting.
So here goes: Kodak Tri-X 400, exposed at 800ISO, to be developed in HC-110.
How long should I develop in solution B or E at 24 degrees Celsius? (times in B might be a bit short). Negs are for scanning

That's one of a series I uploaded where I used Tri-X and HC110 at 800. I had the same problem as you because 800 wasn't listed on the massive dev chart and Kodak's spec sheet says that 400 and 800 are developed at the same time. Which is ridiculous.
Anyway I used dilution B for 10.5 minutes at 20°C. They scanned very well. Can't help you for 24°C though.

Your pictures look fantastic!
10.5 still looks a bit long to me... what also does not help is there are two sets of figures given in the massive dev chart for 'B' and 400ISO. Probably for old and new versions of the film.

Thanks. I arrived at 10.5 because there was a listing for Dilution A for 5.25 minutes for EI800 - so naturally since dilution B is half the developer I just doubled the time. It seemed long to me as well but it worked out.

After comparing and calculating I arrived at 8 and a bit minutes for solution 'B' at 23 degrees Celsius. The negs look fine, but I have yet to scan them.

Yes, but that page causes confusion by stating that the published figures are wrong. It suggests that the times given for 'B' might be the times given for 'A'.
Further confusing is added by stating that old and new Tri-X doesn't make much difference, although the times from Kodak are VERY different old vs new. To top it all off, no times are published for 800ISO.
I did my homework, but it only confused me :bang:

This is one from the roll. I think I overdeveloped a bit, or should take care of my metering a little better. Used a non-AI 135 for most of the shots.

Thanks Darkhorse, the grain on your photos looks great. It seems nicely developed to me. I don't shoot at 800 that much, but will keep this thread as a reminder for when I do. cheers, Ian

No problem guys. It was a problem that I took a wild stab at and it came out great. Now technically I was using Arista Premium 400 but we all know it's the same as Tri-X.
