OK, this is a germ of an idea stemming from Remy's "Bored" thread.

The idea is that we have a day trip to either Paris of Brussells - not restricted to UK members - we spend the day taking shots that show the city as we see it, then we select the best of our images (all paticipants represented) and put them into a LULU style book. So we get a day out in good company in a nice place and get to do what we love, but with a real purpose and we get to see ourselves in PRINT.

If there is enough interest for the UK and the rest of the EU members (or anywhere else is you have the time and money) I'll kick off the organisation of it - possible dates, transport options, costs etc.

Let me know what you think.

Regards

Gid

Great idea, Gid. Funnily enough Sylvia and I were planning just this kind of trip, but were thinking of Lille as it's cheaper to get to. Put me down.

Mark,

I don't really mind where it is as long as enough people from both sides of the channel can get there, so if anyone has better destination ideas, then throw them into the hat. BTW wherever we go my partner will join me, so feel free to include significant others. I am in the process of getting her off her D-Lux 2 (it is a Leica) and into using one of my RFs, so by the time we get anything arranged we may have another convert :)

I am also very intersted in this project.
I am actually french (parisian) and studying in birmingham.
I go back to Paris usually once or twice a month.
I would be glad to help to organze the trip, as I know fairly well prices and airports to go to Paris.

Let me know if you need help for the trip and "what to see" in Paris. I can share my favourite "hunting" places with you. I think a visit (free) to the HCB foundation would also be nice.

Y-E-S !

pretty much in the 24h photo projects that took place at pnet.

It was fun to look at the last shots, they were all of sleepy photogs laying somewhere :D

Congrats in advanced, this one will be superb !

Oscar

PS: I mean YES to the project idea, methinks I won't be able to join :bang:

I'd love to participate if I can!

Paris may be a bit overdone (beautiful nonetheless). I'm not sure if there is enough to see in Brussels. But I'm sure we can pick a city once we have a basic list of who'd want to participate!

Hi Gid and all - I am in and I prefer Bruxelles as I haven't been there but it would be a pleasure to go anywhere and take pictures with people from the RFF.

Sounds like a good idea to me, and I'm sure that my (digital) wife would like to come too.

Paris would be fine (can't get too much Paris) or other easily reached photogenic destination - Bruges and Amsterdam spring to mind.

Keep me in the loop, please!

I'm in if I can. So, if the date fits in one of my rare trip back to France (I'm in China right now), I'd love to be in this project. Sounds great and fun.

OK. here goes. A day (Saturday or Sunday) sometime in May, June or September - avoid peak holiday time - in a European city that is relatively easy and inexpensive to get to - suggestions so far: Amsterdam, Brussells, Paris, Lille, but any suggestions welcome.

PM me with available dates, preferred destinations and numbers (ie + spouse/partner) and I'll see what I can come up with as far as bringing it all to a suitable time/venue and I'll explore costs for UK based people.

Slightly off the wall but interesting as an example: Barcelona Saturday 13th May - leave Gatwick at 06:50, arr Barcelona 10:00, leave Barcelona 22:55 arr Gatwick 00:10 - Easyjet cost £73:48 per person.

I think the problem with cities like York and Bruges would be that there would be a lot of tourists in everyone's shots. Pretty much unavoidable if you go shooting in places like that. Been there, done that, got the photos to prove it.

Would a series on English towns be worthwhile? I've just noticed that I don't know what Towcester or York look like. Perhaps I'm taken by the idea of championing the local, small discrete place, rather than the overcooked and exotic destination. Paris might be more originally photographed by its French natives who know it better, although having lived and worked near the Sorbonne and Montmartre, the diversity of the city for a photographer is breaktaking.

If you blinked you'd miss Towcester - I'm here by accident not really by choice. The end goal for me is to get something that we are happy with into print, through a shared project. The RFF book is already done, so I'm looking at something more original - not just picking our best shots from the last 20 years. If there are enough UK guys interested then we could just do London or Brighton or Bath etc (or a project on the "rough at the edges" traditional seaside towns of England - share them out amongst us). All ideas up for grabs.

Oooh! Oooh! I'd like to be in, but distance and funds restrict that at the moment. I do have some Paris pictures, though...

Anybody would like to contribute to the "Send Gabe to Paris for a week or two Fund"? :D

"Rough at the edges seaside towns", eh. How many rolls of Broadstairs, Kent would you like?

I can think of equally "interesting" places, but I'm not going to name them just in case someone on here was born there or has a granny there ............. ;)

However, a bracing day at Skegness might be interesting - possibly a bit too much like Martin Parr though.

With transport that is comparable to London NCP parking, I'll be in to give it a go. Anyone thougt of Prague....or.. Budapest.... never been there but I gather they have a lot to offer architecturally. Just a thought

I'm up for the odd 'snap' of differrent lands.

I'll work through the responses received so far and try and put forward some proposals for dates and places over the next couple of days. I'll publicise it in this thread, but I'll also PM those who have expressed an interest.

Regards

Gid

Oh, Prague is great; it's a very different feel from any other city I've been to in Europe (of course, I'm preaching to the choir here). I've been there only once, and brought a P&S with me that time. A friend of mine just came back from a trip that included Budapest, and it's a jewel.
