Friends & Neighbors | The surgeon is removing a finger.
Pele fell soon after this photo.
One injury to his finger never healed.
Now that finger must be removed.
It was the hardest photo ever: "Can I please do a before and after?"
He said "Yes, I trust you."
His cunning plan is to get drunk today, so he doesn't care about the surgery.
But he does not seem to understand that the hospital has outwitted him. They told him to book in today for surgery on Friday...

I'm impressed.
How long have you been living in that neighbourhood?

Thank you.
Only about 15 years, which is nothing at all.
Pele is scared of the surgery, there is a tear in his eye, but he trusts me. That means a hell of a lot.

The best camera is one that still works!
Give him all our regards Jon!
My suggestion when he's back on deck and healed is to infer to the interested that he has a background with the 'Yakuza'!

I just saw him, late afternoon, and he's drinking heavily before going to the hospital.

Gabor is right; no drinking before surgery. He'll bleed like a stuck pig.

They'll dry him out tomorrow and take the finger off on Friday.
I did offer to do it it myself, I even said I'd wash the knife first.
But he's gone to the hospital now.
He was too drunk to walk so we called an ambulance.

I am still eating those prawns (as payment from a photo) and still trying to recall where I left them in various freezers around the city!

He is brave in front of his mates. But has a tear when we talk. I admire him for being up for the before and after photos.
I've still got to find the prawns though. It was good payment for a few photos, but they were stashed all over and I cannot recall where exactly.

An old chap in one of my local pubs is having radiation therapy in the past few months he takes a taxi into town and the landlord collects him brings him back to the pub for some refreshing tots of dark rum and he rolls home mid afternoon, he is making terribly light of the whole thing
I have photos but don’t think I feel comfortable posting them

Jon: I’m confident he would not care, it’s my feelings that are the problem

I was uneasy about taking photos of an elderly friend who had radiation therapy a couple of years ago, but he said I should go right ahead. One picture was used in a nation-wide cancer campaign. The silly thing is that I am a smoker.

Emotional attachment makes such things difficult...and entirely worthwhile.
Good luck to the gent.

Yes, it's our own feelings.
I've done the 'before', and next week I'll do the 'after' photo.
