A great photo day!

Was out today and decided to really take some street shots.
Brought:
- Leica M3 w/ 50 'cron and 3 rolls of Acros 100 (shot with a yellow filter so rated at 50), and
- Hasselblad 500c/m, with 80mm Planar and 3 rolls of Provia 100F.

Reason for bringing both was that I wanted to use the Leica for walk-around snaps and the 'blad for the more contemplative portrait oportunities.

Turned out it worked GREAT. Don't think I've taken this many photos in one day in a long time.

Finished 2 rolls of Acros and all 3 rolls of Provia (120)!!

The light was great so I hit up a lot of people asking to take their photos against some nice walls with nice light on it (gathered about 5-6 model releases as well ;) ).

Got turned down maybe 2-3 times - but hey if you don't ask you never know...

Ended up in a nice 'zone' where I swapped between the Leica and the 'blad almost seamlessly after a while.

Hopefully got a few keepers but most importantly it was all really fun! :)

Sounds great Richard! Did you notice any trends as to who was agreeable and who declined your suggestion for a photo?

Frank, - nope, completely random - young and older, men and women.

Do you have a bag that fits both cameras Rich? Did you use a tripod with the Hasselblad?

Nah it's just an old canvas bag and I had one camera in the bag as I had the other one in my hand. No tripod. Even though I was shooting 100 speed film the sun still allowed me to handhold even at f/2.8

Sounds like you were all 'dialed' in and in the zone. I've had some days like that myself, and they really are enjoyable when everything works, smooth as glass, and just having a ball. Why can't be schedule days like this when we need them!!

Glad you had a great day....now pass some of it around to the rest of us LOL.

Hmm...looking at the negatives from the 'blad..and I was off on the focusing on my favorite shots....bummer.....

Real bummer.

I put the older Accumate screen back in mine because I was getting tired of trying to figure out the split image in the new one.

But when you get it right though, there is nothing like hearing the cla-chunk-da of that shutter.

Funny, I'm about to do the same. I never seem to be able to get accurate focusing using the split (I have the split image and micro-prism screen) screen. May be just me but I can turn left and right a bit and it still looks 'in focus' - obviously when I get the slides/negatives back..I can see that that's not the case... Bummer.

I'll post some examples here in this thread - as they are 'blad-ones I won't post them in the gallery.

Piece of cr*p, sigh, bleh!, yuck, mega-bummer....

Got my three rolls of Acros back today that I had put through the Leica and THE one roll that I had most hopes for was...blank.
I really liked the subject so I took a whole roll of it..very unusual for me...and it's...blank... :(

Well, I know why...I managed to..eh..break..my MR-4 meter in an attempt to..eh..improve it...and in my stupidity I relied upon readings that I should have known better to question...sigh......

Anyway, got a lot of hits and misses on the rolls... I'll post the Leica shots in the gallery and some of the 'blad photos here.

It was interesting to look at the films afterwards to see when I switched to Leica and when to Hasselblad.

I kinda like this one due to the unexpected selfportrait ;)

They were by the way very friendly and let me snap three quick shots :)

And here's the unexpected self portrait - in his glasses:

Hm, this one I really blew the focus on..would had been a great shot actually had I gotten the eyes in focus. He moved quickly though - it's not quite as 'posed' as one might think :)

Maybe I need to re-think Hasselblad as a street-/candid camera :)

Another street shot that could had been pretty good..had I kept the girl in focus..instead of the wall :(

Great streetshots! Agree with you that if the focusing is spot on it will be perfect. Where were you? It looks like a gay pride cum Gothic convention.

Kris, ewww - I'd never buy a 6000-series Rollei. Way too much plastic for my taste :) I would however consider a Rolleiflex 2.8F ;)

Peter, I ended up at the 'Folsom Street festival' in San Francisco - annual gay/pride celebration thingy.

Aannd a last one...after these I'll post the Leica photos in the gallery. :)

Sorry to post all these damn SLR photos in this thread :)

Richard, in focus or not, some of them i really like. Like the one with that girl (no,not only because of her. The colours are what i really like, and the light.) Did she pose or just walking by that wall?

Re the "self-portrait" in the sunglasses...ehh, that's the power of 6x6 frame and a slow film:) it's amazing how much detail you got out of it. How did you scan?

Great shots Rich, some the softer ones look almost intentional, is this 2.8? I find the DOF on my 80mm T* to shallow close up @ f2.8, f4 is pretty amazing though!
Nice images anyway, the lighting was very good.
