a la carte Leica Program

Hey all,

I was considering a new camera in the future, and have been toying with the idea of picking up an M for low light. (maybe Nokton 35/1.2, Summilux 75/1.4, some 50/1.2). Lenses and bodies may change, but you can get the idea.

So, one of the thoughts I had was the a la carte program. I was wondering a few things:

1. Has anyone done it?
2. What is the delivery time like?
3. Is the student discount still available?
4. Does everyone only sell at list?
5. Any recommended dealers, preferably in Southern California?

Well, anyone throw out your comments please:)

There is a configurer on Leica's site. You can go through the whole process and order the whole deal there I think. Or, your specs can be made into a PDF and downloaded which I guess you can take to the retailer of your choice. If you are serious about this the best thing to do would be to go and create your dream camera, download the PDF, and wait for a local retailer to have a Leica Day event. I believe you may be able to earn a bit of a discount on these promotional days, and other add ons like extended warrenties and such to go along with your new investment. There is a list of events posted at the Leica web site too.

Oh, yes, I have configured a nice pair of Leica Ms. Matching M7 and MP, and I was able to keep each body under $4k!!!

Can I choose my own cover as well? Do they have Paradise Pink Snake leather, or Japanesque Gold? Maybe some dark blue Chinese silk? :)

You shouldn't have to wait for the "Leica days" at the dealerships. The dealer should be able to cut you a discount on any day of the year that is equivalent.
