What did you think ? Is the Nokton 1.1 too expensive ? :bang:But its a very great lense and here in germany its mine for about 999.- euro

Did anyone still own this pretty sexy thing ?

I don't think it's available yet... It will be released on 6/29 in Japan, so I assume the same in other countries...
I am also the one waiting for this lens...

@hiromu : one dealer here in germany could delivery the lense from 29.06.09 for 999.- euro :) its a special voigtlaender shop !

@Roger Hicks: did i understand rigth ; you mean that its to hard to focus this lense on the r-d1 ?

Well, it can be done, but: you need to have your camera and lens aligned perfectly, and being without glasses certainly helps. And: it just takes more time. In a recent thread (can't remember the subject, sorry...) several shooters stated they could shoot the Hexanon and Canon 1.2 lenses on Leica CL or Minolta CLE, which have a slightly larger rangefinder base, but no 1:1 finder like the Bessa's. It might be possible on the R-D1, but it will be slow for sure. If your way of shooting allows for slow focussing, it might work.

As you can tell from this, it's not impossible altogether, but it is getting close...

You'd be advised to buy an M3 to shoot the Nokton on. Heck, I used to shoot the Canon 50mm f1.2 on a Zorki 4, with 1:1 finder, that was a cool set-up! Focus and shoot with both eyes open!

I'm pretty sure you could focus Nokton 50/1.1 on RD1, if you know what you are doing that is. I used Canon 50/1.2 and CV 35/1.2 on RD1 without much problem and wide open. So, it all depends on how well your camera is adjusted and how well you can focus, your skill level. I know people that cant even focus 2.8 lens on Leica M, much less a super fast lens like Noctilux on Bessa/RD1.

P.S. As far as new Nokton goes - I'm more worried about it's signature, not so much if I could focus it. I'm waiting to see more pics from one, as ones I have seen from Tom A left me with mixed feelings about this lens.

What would be the recommended bodies to optimize the use of the f1.1?

Easily the Zeiss Ikon IMO, it has the longest EBL ... maybe a Leica M3 if you want something older.

I meant to add that the Ikon is also superior in another area ... you will see a lot less of a big lens through it's viewfinder than you will on any other camera currently available!

For me the Bessas have the viewfinder window way too close to the lens mount. If you measure from the center of the viewfinder to the centre of the lens mount on a ZI it's 5cm ... on a Bessa it's less than 4cm!

That and the short EBL really handicap the Bessa IMO! I like the principal of the R4 series with the 21 25mm and 28mm framelines but my Zeiss Biogon 25mm absolutely dominates the viewfinder of my R4A.

I thought we were talking about the Nokton 50mm/f1.1.

We were but I got sidetracked! :p

But ... because of that short distance from the VF window to the center of the lens mount the new 1.1 would be crap on a Bessa body IMO ... add the shortish EBL and it makes you realise that Kobayashi certainly will be well aware that his new baby probably won't be doing much time on Voigtlander camera bodies! :D

After seeing the report and lots of example photos in "Camera Magazine 10" me too...

I have managed to focus the Noctilux @ f/1.0 with my Leica CL, the Hexar RF (0.6x VF) and always with a 0.72x VF Leica. The 0.91s VF of the M3 helps but is not necessary. Much more important than the VF magnification are the contrast of the RF patch itself and the condition of the eyes.

Focus is not an absolute; it's a question of how well/how often. Nor is it purely a question of skill: the laws of geometry are not reversed by wishful/boastful thinking, nor is mechanical precision magically improved. And as Gabor says, a lot depends on RF contrast.

The longer the RF base, the better, and the Bessas all have a short RF base. On the T it's magnified; on the R3 it's 1:1; on all others it's reduced (on the R4, grievously). If you work very slowly and carefully, preferably with an eyepiece magnifier, you'll get probably acceptable-to-perfect results almost all the time. Shoot fast, and your success rate will almost certainly drop.

No problem whatsoever with the 1.0 Noctilux or Canon 1.2 on the RD1s.

People often blame the camera - because naturally there can be nothing whatsoever wrong with their eyesight....
