Wow. These are great!
Love the atmosphere. Your black and White images is like a time warp back into the 40-50's. Very nice.

Very nice indeed. I am off to the track this weekend (Mosport a.k.a. Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) and had planned to take one or other of my rangefinders along with the Digital axes. I'd bought some Fuji Superia for this but your photos are making me think I should go B&W instead. Great stuff!

Great shots. I've been shooting at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut for the last few years, but unfortunately I don't have quite the access to the pit areas that you do. I've done both B&W and color, and for the vintage stuff I've definitely been happier with the former.

1. Nice pictures I liked them quiet a lot.
2. As nice as your pictures are they do not convey the feeling of speed and hurry everything is frozen even the Jaguar racing images do not convey speed they are again frozen. I think you need a few pictures that show speed for example by panning with the subjects and longer shutter speeds. In motion unsharpness etc.. these type of images are missing from your otherwise great reportage from the racing circuit.

Fred, this is a great series, thanks for sharing!
I like the feel and tonality of your photos. Makes me want to spent a day or two around racetracks and old cars.
I also did have a look on your website, thats some good documentary photography. I liked the London series a lot.

Thanks for the kind words!
There are a couple of things that will forever be missing from this project.
The piercing sounds of the race-track, and the smells of burnt oil and petrol.

Well, you can always shoot video for the sound, but they still haven't found a way to pipe the smells into the Internet.
Just a great series of photos, Fred. Kind of takes me back to when I hung around the drag strips a few decades ago.

The second and third the third has a kind of Ben Hur/Grease feel to it. The first and fourth are not blurry enough a stronger background blur would help or even better a very light vehicle blur. Lartigue's car photo is a great example for showing speed. But honestly I like all of your photos and endulge in a little nitpicking.

Thanks, and I'm glad you enjoy it, PF. I do hope to spend some time on american circuits in the future, a whole different world.

Thanks for the input! I had forgotten about Lartigue, some wonderful stuff from the turn of the century!

Great set, bonatto - I see that you posted these in May, but I missed them then.
That appears to be Senna's JPS Lotus in the 2nd shot of the 2nd set? The association of Senna and Donington Park runs very deep with F1 enthusiasts. Senna's absolute brilliance was on display during the first lap of the 1993 GP at Donington. It remains the finest lap of any motor race that I've ever seen (and I've seen a HUGE number of them!).
Wonderful, evocative shots - thanks for posting...!

I agree - but then, I like a lot of Lartigue's work.

Thank you. That is indeed Senna's Lotus, specifically the 1985 he won his first GP in (Estoril)!

Thanks - I thought so. That first win was another on the long list of his rain-driving master-classes...
