Coming from Dslrs when I first acquired the original 1D the maximum card size from what I was told was 2GB. Although if you had a 4GB card there was a workaround to get the camera to recognize it by reformatting it into FAT16 from FAT32. If it wasn't reformatted it would only "see" 2GB and leave the rest of the card unused.
So I was wondering if anyone had given it a go with a 4GB card with the R-D1 or not? Does anyone know off hand which FAT system the R-D1 uses? Maybe I'll just swing by a store later on tonight or tomorrow and pick up a 4GB and give it a try. I'm posting from my phone otherwise I'd plug the card into the computer and sort it out.

Okay, I went to the store to buy one but the prices were insane so I ordered it off of Amazon and will post results when it comes in Wednesday.

Well the card came in day early and sadly the formatting doesn't seem to work like it did on the old 1D, guess we're gonna have to do with the 2GB cards.

It makes it more "considered" shooting if you have to worry about running out of space
I carry 2-3 cards when I'm shooting lots, they're about $8 (£7) a card.

Why big cards for small files?
