A summarit in .... BLACK ??!!

I agree, given the luster and the apparent patina on the front cap, looks legit. These photos can be deceiving, though. I have seen a very convincing paint job on a Summitar (not to be confused with a Summarit) that was also all black.

This is one lens, though, that is much sexier in chrome, if I may say so.

how is this an example of a poor paint job? Looks pretty good to me.

If you look at the right side third photo down you can see sagging and orange peel which is a sign of a non-professional paint job.

Most black M-series lens were either anodized or chrome and the few that were painted had a glass smooth paint job. Most though were satin chrome finished..

If you don't mind me asking, what does "orange peel" mean? I've never heard a reference to that phenomena before.

Orange peel refers to uneven drying of spray paint where too much paint was applied in one application. It does not have to run, but sometimes does. It has a visual similarity to the peel of an orange.

When paint is applied too thick it has the appearance of the exterior surface of an orange. As a result it is referred to as "orange peel"..

A properly painted surface should be glass smooth..

looks like a rookie paint job, but the red and white look okay, the #2 of 8 has edges that look repaired. also the cap looks like age work, should the leica logo also have brassing or scratches to match the edges?? oh well it least its black for the people who like it!
