I have spent two weeks in Iran recently and took some snaps there.

Great series! This is why photography is still so important - browsing through your images, one can only be too aware of the vibrancy, beauty and humanity within a state that has been simplistically demonised by our politicians.

Beautiful images of high documentary quality. Thank you for sharing. Reminds me of a photographic book called "Inside North Korea" (or something similar).

I could not find anything rogue or see any axis of evil in your photos :) You must have missed them.

hunghang, my dictionary says axes are imaginary lines, so perhaps that's why they don't show up in his photos? They just exist in the imagination of certain politicians..

trix, beautiful images! I hope to visit Iran in a couple of years.

Dear Alex,

VERY nice stuff. I was even more impressed by the Instanbul series because I've been there. When you see pictures of somewhere you've never been, it's easier to imagine "I could do that." I don't think I could. I don't think many could.

The few Iranians I have met, I have got on well with. At photokina this year, a woman on one of the Iranian stands was most amused when I said I'd have to take her picture to prove to some of my more xenophobic readers that Iranians don't have horns...

Cheers,

R.

Thank you!

Thank you!

Wonderful look at a people and place, and with considerable breadth. Your ability to get right in there is admirable. Thanks for sharing here.

trix,
Lots of great images, congratulations...

I have seen snaps from Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Russia - they looked great too... What you see in the streets, the landscape and the people you meet in a bar has nothing to do with the politics of the state. As to your politicians, depicting Iran as an enemy of the Western world, they were not referring to that family driving in four on a motorbike in Ahvaz, in particular, they were referring to what the system of power is after. The Germans in 1939 were a nation of well educated people, lovers of music and poetry, hard workers who had a typically protestant pride in building a civilized society. We all know what happened next.
Don't be blinded by your dislike of the current administration, learn from history - or even from the present. There's enough information about Iran, Cuba or North Korea from independent sources - go and find out...

You obviously didn't see picture 8. Besides that one (;)) they are wonderful. Beautiful places and interesting people.

I absolutely agree. Part of the process of finding out is keeping an open mind and having the chance to see through the eyes of talented photographers like trix.

Thanks for sharing these, Alex.
This kind of reminder of the humanity we all share is important.

Thanks for all your comments !

@Double Neg. I wouldn´t call Iran a "rouge state" either, it was G.W. Bush who did.
Regarding Somalia..i´m sure the majority of the Somalis are nice people who try to survive.

Ignoring the politics of nations and issues of 'good and bad' as related to anything non-photographic, I think the body of work presented is impressive and deserving of praise on both the quality of the photography and the documentation of the lives and places of others. Wonderful images trix, good, solid work.
