Leica LTM ABLON film crazy price!

As much as I paid for my perfect shape 1f!

I'm on the third roll in my recently acquired 1f, and have no problem loading it with untrimmed film using the B shutter setting. I was thinking the ABLON would be cute for about $50...

Searched and have not found anything like that. I think that was in the past as everyone has been saying to get the copy for $10, but none are to be found!

Unless I am looking in the wrong place..

I've found it easy enough to load film using the B setting, the problem is all the film I've loaded has been in the comfort of my home. It would be a bit more awkward having to do that outdoors, having to remove the lens and place it somewhere etc

Somebody should 3D-print that template in thick plastic, so a photographer can easily run a knife past it and cut the film in a single quick flick of the wrist

I guess it wouldn't be to hard to make one from a piece of scrap perspex using some basic hand tools. I just trim my leaders with a pair of scissors before I go out.

I don't think the items fetch these prices because people use them for photography. They're collector items.

OK, none for sale now but try tomorrow and so on. Often they are like buses and travel in threes then nothing for a while.

R G Lewis sold a nice one and there was one by "Prinz" sold by a lot of firms. Nail scissors are cheap and very versatile...

The e-bay kit had the original film knife AND the leather slip-case....

I've tried the generic version that came with one of my Watson 66 bulk-loaders...

I'm a lot happier with a pair of Revlon cuticle scissors from the drug-store.

Hmm, at that price maybe I don't need mine any longer.

If they need a knife I could probably throw in my old boy scout Case penknife. The blade is a little bit bent from using it as a pry bar but I bet I can still cut my finger with it just as quick as I did back then.

A few years ago I went through the process of costing the manufacture of a replica. 500 units first run, China.

Price wasn't too bad but then the factory thought it was a a test for much bigger volume... you can only get away with that once.

I had also thought of producing a few of the Elmar aperture control 'rings' (name anyone?) as part of the deal.

I asked around here but the actual demand seemed to evaporate and life is too short.

Travel back in time to the '40s and '50s and they were being made by quite a few UK companies, remember Photax?

Kodak ought to have made one for the Retina, it's shown in the manual for film trimming but might have been the Leitz one Kodak were using...
