Achilles' heel on MP

Hi all,

I have a question about the material that make up a MP:
Is the Achilles's heel in the bottom case of MP made of metal or just plastic?
I read some book which said all the components on Leica MP are made of metal, but I found this part on my MP is plastic!😡

Not sure which part you're talking about, havn't found any plastic in mine.

Achilles' heel is actually the circular wheel that installed on the left side(film advance side) of MP bottom case, and is used to hold the thress metal claws in the body.

Can you check if yours is metal made, or plastic?

That part on my M6 is plastic as well, no problem with it though

It's for the Holga glow. 😱

Surely the ISO disc on the back is the most puzzling bit of plastic on the MP

Quite agree! And I like the style of ISO disc on M3 much more than that on MP, seems M3 is the ultimate goal where all dreams end.

Doesn't the ISO disk changed the ISO of the film? That's what I've always used it for!

Not only the function I want on a Leica M, but also the firm craft and better feeling when I use it. Less plastic, the better.😀

Indeed. 🙂 Actually, Nikon make hybrid asphericals that are formed from a special plastic molded onto optical glass.

Not saying that Leica does (they use a patented glass "press" process, I believe), but lot's of asph lenses out there have molded plastic elements. Always wondered about CV.

If I remember correctly so did Pentax back when high-index plastic was an exotic material 🙂

"Hybrid" means plastic on glass. Sorry to be a bore ... it's too early here.

You're right. Your MP will probably disintegrate in to it's individual parts at any given moment. You better mail it to me, so it doesn't make a mess.
