I recently purchased a black Minolta Hi-matic E that looked to be in great shape. I have a suspicion that it started life as a silver version and had the top/ bottom trim and lens rings transplanted from a donor black model.
After shooting a test roll I found out that the camera was out of focus. I am new to rangefinders and so I did a lot of googling to find out how to adjust the focus. I could never find any guides on the specific screws to adjust on the Hi-matic E, but I tried to figure it out by trial and error.
I used a bright light source, a magazine cover, and ground glass over the film gate. I tried to adjust both to infinity and the closest setting, but neither worked. The strange thing is that even when I adjusted to infinity based on the image on the ground glass, when I put a roll of film through it the infinity images still came out blurry.
Any input and suggestions are appreciated. A guide on which screws to adjust, and what each screw adjusts, on the Hi-matic E would be awesome. Thanks
