I have a couple of lenses that I would like to sell, and am looking for some advice on whether to have the lenses CLA'd before posting them on eBay. I acquired the lenses as part of an eBay auction- I am keeping the things I want (Yashica YF and Nikkor 35/2.5), and selling the rest.

The lenses in question are an LTM collapsible 50mm Summicron and an LTM 90/2.8 Elmarit. The Summicron is in really nice cosmetic shape, and the glass exhibits no coating damage and little internal dust, but the aperature ring is really stiff and difficult to use at f8 and smaller. Focusing is smooth, and the collapsible barrel shows only minor scratching. The 90mm Elmarit is in fair cosmetic shape, and has what appears to be oil on the interior surface of the front element. Focus and aperture operate smoothly.

Given the price that the Elamrit generally sells for on eBay, it doesn't appear that having the lens CLA'd would be worth the cost. I was wondering whether it would be worthwhile to have the Summicron cleaned and lubricated prior to posting it- would I have a decent chance of recouping the cost of the CLA? If I did not get the Summicron cleaned and lubricated, I would of course mention in the auction that a CLA would be needed to facilitate use.

Any thoughts?

In my experience it is hard to recuperate the CLA costs, unless the lens would be totally unusable withou a CLA.
Just price it so that a buyer can add the CLA cost and get a decent price.
good luck
