Tried the search engine for this but must not know how to enter the variables.
In an effort to reduce my "investment" (yeah, right!
) in gear, I'm thinking about selling my 50/2.0 Summicron and CV 35/2.8 PII and getting a 40/2.0. I'll retain my CV 75/2.5.
Yes, I'm aware there are compromises involved, but the cost/benefit analysis reared its ugly head.
I like to keep filter size consistent. Given that the CV 75 uses 43mm and none of the 40s of which I'm aware does, a step ring looks like the only alternative. I can't find a 40.5 to 43 or Series 5.5 to 43 though. And of course there's the whole aggravating discussion about thread pitch. Do I even want to ask about a hood? Thank you Leica for complicating simplicity. :bang:
Looking for some direction here -- any suggestions/threads?
TIA!/ScottGee1

Monetarily wise, sell the Leica 50 and get a CV 50. You're not going to get much for the pancake, anyway. If you don't like the 50 or the 35, sell one and keep the other. I don't see the point in a 40, but that's just me.

the 40 summicron/minolta lens is a great lens at a great price and many find a good compromise between the 35 and 50.
i had one when i had cle's and it worked for me.
a 40/75 combo would work fine.
unless you use many filters alot of the time i wiouldn't worry about it. keep a few for each lens. i hate messin' with adapters and transferring hoods from one lens to another.
i have two 35mm lenses with a filter size of 40mm and they each have their own hood, so much easier.
my 2 cents...

Doh!!
Doh!!
Sheesh! Been so focused on the Summicron/Rokkor options I just noticed the CV 40/1.4 uses 43mm filters. Duh . . .
Is the bokeh of that lens really that bad? 'spose I'll have to look at examples and decide for myself. Of course opinions are always welcome!

Scott,
When I said "What's the point of the 40?" I'm talking to someone who already has a 35mm. Certainly if you were just starting out and the 40 was your first lens, it would be fine. I just don't see selliing a good 35 to buy a 40.

10-4. The CV 35/2.8 PII is indeed a good lens. The difference of a stop for the Rokkor/Summicron is debatable but when the 40/1.4 is thrown into the mix the two stop difference is, IMO, significant.
I need to make the time to check some pix made with it. Ideally, I'll shoot with one myself and develop my own opinions about it but none of the local dealers carry it so I'm SOL on that front.

I have been thinking of the 40/1.4 for my CL but I am so pleased with the Summicron 40 that came with it so I will stick with that. Re. filters i made my own 39-43 step ring by smashing two scratched filters and super glued the smaller ring into the larger and voilá! a step ring for the CV25+75 combo I carry with my Bessa T. It also works on the Summicron.
Good luck with the downsizing, one day I'll try that too!
Jacob
By the way, I am looking for a sharp 50 and a small 35...

Good to hear!
And you're looking for what I'm selling -- we should talk! Always happy to help other photographers 'upsize'!
Thanks!/Scott
