Advice - tele for my 7

I was hoping to find a good 85/2, but also looking at 100/3.5

I want a compact good, sharp tele w good contrast. I would use it for bw trix at 400 or 1600 so it doesn't need to be fast.

Is there other lenses that i should look for - suggestions?

Though I still have to wait to finish my first roll since i have my canon 100/3.5 I think that this lens will serve you well.

It is light, compact and it should also have a good image quality.

not an f2, but the 4/90 M Rokkor or cle lens is excellent and relatively affordable. The zm 2\85 is also excellent, but expensive, hard to find and a bit heavy. The zm 4\85 Tessar is reputedly super sharp and somewhere in between in price.

Neither of those M mount lenses in the prior comment will work on the Canon 7.

I'd suggest the 100/3.5, the little chrome and silver one. Weighs nothing, small, sharp. You're still using enough of the viewfinder that you can compose effectively.

The 85/2, 85/1.9, and 85/1.8 are much bulkier due to their speed, and focus slowly to provide enough focusing accuracy -- although they are still hard lenses to focus accurately. So I think one is much more likely to bring the 100/3.5 along.

On the other hand, the 85/2 is more common.
