I'm looking for Micro Focus Finder and Multigrade filters for my friend. Henry's sell Paterson focuser for $39.99CA, the same is a price of Ilford multigrade filter set. Totally $80 plus tax. Is it reasonable price? Does anyone know better place in Toronto for this kind of equipment. I bought all my darkroom setup second hand, so I payd cheaper and a lump sum for everything. But I noticed the price tag on the box of my paterson focus finder, and it is $29.95. Was it cheaper a few years ago (I suppose in 1992)? Don't send me to eboy or US on-line stores... shipment, taxes, handling fees that canada post takes for calculating taxes ($5 for regular parcel and $8 for express) will result that Henry's local price is reasonable fair.

Sorry if it sounds a bit off topic here... I think in classified forum it would be offtopic also :)

Thank you in advance,
Eduard

how old are you?

if you are over 30 forget the patterson grain mag and get a peak.
they are very expensive but you will nevr regret it, never.

I'm over 30. I guess you're suggesting model No.1 from this list:

It's expensive indeed. I never used any focus finders before. I guess we didn't have them in USSR, or it was just poor me. I was very sceptic about this Paterson toy I got with enlarger untill I spent a couple of nights in my kitchen/darkroom. Probably when I will have my house and set up a real darkroom I'll look for a peak No.1

i had a patterson for years and never had a complaint.
then i bought the peak and discovered the difference.
it was like night and day.
the darkroom became a nicer place to be.
mine was about 120 cdn but that was many years ago.

Both Commercial Camera (North York) and International Camera (Etobicoke) have used darkroom stuff, including grain magnifiers.

Thanks Victor, I have to check International Camera - it's not far from my place. Last time I was there I found all their used darkroom stuff was more expensive than new in Henry's... but I was looking for enlarger then, I didn't even know how handy focus finder could be.

The ilford multigrade price sounds about right.

As per the grain focuser, I have used PEAK in the college darkroom and it is great. I have a cheapo at home and it works OK as well. Try getting a used one, could save you big bucks.
