Has anyone tried the Agfa/Orwo 12, or their FSU equivalent ST 2 developer?
What are the experiences?

Dear Buddies,
some weeks ago I asked your opinion regarding Agfa/Orwo 12- ST 2 developer, but no replies arrived. So I decided to make this developer on my own from raw chemicals and test it with Fomapan 100 film.
The results were utterly amazing. The Fomapan 100- ST-2 combo is among the best I have ever tried so far. It delivers marvellous deep blacks, great highlights, fine grain and balanced, silvery halftones. The contrast is well balanced. This is valid for 135 and 120 format as well.
I can recommend you this developer.

Thanks for the update. Could you share the formula? I haven't compounded my own developers in something like 40 years, but it was kind of fun. With a developer as you describe, I might be tempted again. How was the grain?

Under former East German Agfa there were very smart photo chemical engineers. Later in 1964 their name was changed to OrWo. Calbe was their chemical plant and they made some smart developers like A-49. This receipt has been modified a bit due to the more strict EU regulations and is sold under Adox now.
OrWo went belly up around 1995, same for the Pentacon factory but a re-start subsidized by the EU in 1997 under OrWo Filmotec (cine and TSF products). They are still in business, same for Calbe although they are producing also other things now.
The Sovjets copied a lot of German chemical receipts, camera models and lenses (Kiev/Contax/Zeiss).

Thanks for the above and the subsequent link. I would enjoy mixing developers and experimenting again. I don't know that can happen though, because of my wife's ill heath.
FWIW I ran across this link http://unblinkingeye.com/Articles/Developers/Formulas/formulas.html with some interesting information, just not the FSU furmulas I was looking for.

And the Hungarian Forte papers were champions as well. The factory closed the doors in 2007.
