*ahem*

Just think, a sapphire glass cover on the crappiest screen in all the land!

Really? Ow. Ya think so? Funny, it works just fine for me....

Anyway, I bypassed the "sapphire crystal" for one of those Giotto screen protectors. The poor man's "sapphire crystal". Works just as well.

Don't get me wrong, the M9 is the greatest camera I've ever used, bar none. But the screen IS garbage, so why pay $1295 to protect it?

OK, so yeah, little bird gave me pricing info:
1295 for sapphire
1995 for sapphire and top/bottom, either color

I like the engraving on the M9P- classy. I'll settle for the Giotti screen covers on my M9 and M8, and the engraving on my M3.

That is an expensive bird - Solms is quite a bit cheaper...

Broken lower quality LCD is just as useless as a Broken higher quality LCD...

I see no problem if someone is willing to spend that amount of cash to protect an integral part of the camera no matter the quality of the display.

Oh yes.... Mine took a hard bump and the hard glass (Giottos Aegis) took the brunt with a nice crack. $3 plastic clear sticker would have done squat to protect it. Replacement was under $20 USD... I bet a replacement LCD is significantly more.

PS> Why are people so hung up on the quality of LCD on cameras? You use it to chimp and nothing else... Its not like you are performing final edits on it.

I'd love to upgrade my M9. But after doing it with my M8 and not getting any noticeable increase in resale value, I just don't see the point. And the M8 upgrade had even more to offer.

I would never upgrade for investment purposes, only if the features appealed based on my needs and preferences.

However, contrary to your financial premise, I routinely see M8u cameras priced higher by dealers than comparable M8 cameras (particularly ones with all 3 upgrades), with M8.2s priced higher still. Of course there are variations all over the place (I've seen M8.2s priced $1000 apart despite seeming comparability). And, who knows what the sale price ends up being.

But, given time and the right sales approach, I think there are buyers willing to pay a premium for an M8u compared to an M8, if condition warrants, but not equal to the cost of the upgrade in the first place.

Resale does not interest me. It is zero anyway as my camera is engraved with my name. For me the upgrade makes sense. The camera will need an intense CLA in November. It will go out of guaranty coming September. And it is a bit beat up cosmetically.
So 1050 Euro plus VAT will give me new top, botttom, screen and cover, a new sapphire scrreen, a full CLA and a year guaranty. No a bad deal imo. I booked my slot. And I will pay extra to put my name on the camera again ;)

Shame on Leica!

Well yes it is on a number of levels. It's very difficult for anyone wanting to buy a new Leica Lens to be able to do so. I don't think any Leica dealer in the UK has any of the current lens line-up in stock to purchase off the shelf.

Take Red dot as an example. They trade purely in Leica. If they can't sell many lenses in the current economic climate due to poor supplies they will struggle as a business.

And we all know what is happening with the continual rise in the prices of used lenses due to a number of factors, one of which is the scarcity of lenses in supply.

I've got to say Gabriel. I get a little tired of a lot of your facetious comments in threads on this forum. They don't bring anything constructive to a thread and quite frankly make you look.... Ahem.. A little bit silly ;)
