Well, after keeping folks here posted on the M8 deals to be had at Robert White and just having received my M8 a couple of weeks ago, I was ready to take my M8 on little road trip. Scheduled to attend a photography related conference in Albuquerque next week, I was planning to spend the next seven days shooting along Route 66 and in other places in the Southwest. Then fate reared its ugly head. While performing the typical male Saturday morning chore (taking out the garbage), I slipped on the ice and broke my wrist (dominant hand, of course). Arrrrgh! Three pins put everything back in place, but sure wreaked havoc on my well laid plans.

Once my wrist is in a cast (the orthopedic surgeon wanted to wait for the swelling to subside), I should be able to run my DSLR in a workable manner (photography is my profession). Any tips on using a rangefinder left-handed? There's just something wrong with leaving a new camera unused!

Terribly SORRY whats happened
but I must admit
you're a damn good writer /You've Got humor Down :)
i was laughing all the way through
I HOPE I was supposed to have been

To a Speedy Recovery
All the Best- helen

This may be more creative than useful, but how about installing a small ball head into the cast to hold the camera, located so you can see through the viewfinder. Left hand then focuses and handles the shutter release. You could even use a cable release to fire from the left hand.

Having broken my wrist before, I empathize and wish you a speedy recovery, Matt.

In the meantime, you might try one of these:)

I've learned to shoot with my Bessa L one-handed with either hand, but the M Leicas are a bit heavy for my over the top grip. The accesory viewfinder is a great place to hook a finger around, but then you can't look through it. Yes, you can nudge a focsing tab this way and that with the tip of an extended middle finger. Tabless lenses are a problem though.

What is the conference you are attending?

The North American Nature Photographer's Association (NANPA) is holding their annual summit and trade show at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque. I was registered to attend a couple of pre-summit workshops, but this trip will have to wait for another time.

You just can't help bad luck. I remember badly spraining my ankle once walking INTO a pub (that is before I'd had a few.)

A friend of mine broke his thumb putting his overalls on ... but he was a drummer! :p

Did you continue into the pub? You know, a little something to take the edge off the pain;)

Helen -- by all means, feel free to chuckle. I need to think of more adventurous scenario to explain my predicament. Taking out the trash, for crying out loud -- nah, that just won't do. Oh, did I mention the gang of outlaw bikers?
