Hi Fellow RFFers,
i have the good fortune to go on a short trip to Tokyo in
the near future. I would like to spend a couple of days to
shoot in B&W, where is a good place to go and take pictures
of people, restaurants ?
Any particular place in Ginza, Shibuya to take note of ?
thanks!

There are many places.
1. East exit Shinjuku Station
2. Kabukicho east of Shinjuku Station
3. Shibuya Crossing
4. In and around Harajuku Station
These are the very popular and well-know places. There are many more. Just let you feet doing the walking and you will find something.

The main street through Omotesando Hills is good. You can take a triangular route which starts at Shibuya Station, goes to Harajuku, then to Omotesando, and then back to Shibuya.
If you would like someone to show you around, I am in central Tokyo, not far from Tokyo Station.

Yanaka and Nezu are my favorites - look them up on Google. Dave from ShootTokyo and I have made a few trips there. Always good - but not now when it is simply too hot.

There is a walk I like starting from Nippori Station walk south. Hitting Yanaka Ginza, and Nezu and finishing up in Ueno Park. You can just jump back on the JR Line at the park.
Now's a good time to go, it is finally starting to cool off a bit.

Tokyo feels generally like a very safe city to shoot. While shooting in Kabukicho I did meet a few guys let's say not particularly eager to be photographed, but they gave clear sign of it, I respected that and nothing happened. So I wouldn't worry.
For me it felt safe enough to suggest you to "get lost" (in the good sense..) and discover your Tokyo.
Scroll just a little bit down in my blog's homepage and you'll find a few posts with plenty of shots from Tokyo, if of any interest. Been in Tokyo once, I got addicted and am going again in November..

No danger, but you might be approached by unsavory types who might ask "you like sex with Japanese girl"?
It is wise to avoid the bars with Nigerian doormen, never go in one of these places alone.

I generally found Tokyo one of the friendliest cities to shoot in, I didn't have any problems at all while I was there. Shibuya and Shinjuku are obvious areas for street shooting, and I had great results in Akihabara too. (and it's great for camera stores!)
For something a bit different, try Harajuku as well. Lots of great street fashion, and if you go on a Sunday, lots of young folks are around dressed up in all kinds of unique outfits and costumes.

In any area there is lot's of interesting stuff to see and photograph. Just try 2 or 3 streets parallel to the main street, don't be afraid to walk into a small alley. Sometime backroads have interesting restaurants were people are basically sitting more on the street than in an enclosed restaurants.
And I think it was not mentioned so far but if you are a foodie Tsukiji (spelling?) Fish market and area around were they sell knives and all kinds of food ingredients is a must. But it has been a looong time, since I have been there. I am not sure if you can still just stroll in there at 4 am when the action is happening.
