Where'd my Bessa go?
I picked up these 2 new lenses and discovered they didn't come with the shades. They're priced about $70, a rip off at any rate. Would anyone know of any third party shades that might fit the 2? They share the same hood. I typically leave the shades on so it'd be nice to have 2, and I'm definitely not going to fork out $140 for them.

The original 1950s Walz/Hoya/Kenko hoods can be had on eBay for around $20-50; for some reason they've gone up in price in the past couple years. However, there is a vendor on eBay, "heavystar" (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZheavystar), who sells modern generic vented hoods for $15 that are just like the old ones & he has some in 43mm.
FYI, these hoods will not cause any vignetting on the 50/2 & probably won't on the 35/2 (I've successfully used the 40mm version on the Canon 35/2 RF lens without vignetting).

Thanks for the pointer. I did see the vented hoods on ebay before but was a little wary as they were screw in types. You're right to say I was worried about viginetting, especially since I would be mounting it on a UV filter. I'd give it a go, they aren't that pricey anyhow.
I did read somewhere, and I wish I could provide a link, but it was stated that although it doesn't say it, the shades for the ZI lenses are interchangable. There was a list of what lens shades could be shared by what lenses. My guess is that is you wanted to get the shade for the 35/2 is that it will also work fine on the 50. That will at least save you the price of one if I am right.

Yes they do share the same shade but I usually like each of my lenses having its own. I normally just leave it on for added protection as I dont use front caps on most of my lenses.

The CV LH-5 vented lens shade, made for the CV 40/1.4 Nokton, fits perfectly on the Zeiss 35/2 or 50/2 & sells for $45. In fact the pictures look identical, although I don't know if the CV shade is spring loaded like the Zeiss.

I have the LH-4 and that's not spring loaded. If it really fits, the LH-5 is a good alternative for its price. I've already bought an original Zeiss hood and a screw on hood mentioned earlier though. The Zeiss hood is a real piece of work, the spring loaded lock oozes quality with its resounding click when locked in place. And it really won't come off without giving it a slight push before turning. I know because I didn't realise it was spring loaded when I first tried to remove it. I was stupidly turning it with all my might... reminds me of those bottles of pills with safety tops.

I have a friend who has one & he says that the CV hood works perfectly on his 35 Biogon.

Terence, you may like to check for B+W folding rubber lens hoods at http://www.bhphotovideo.com in the 43mm screw-in size for your lenses. Under $20 and they fold back for compact storing. Not sure if you will get any vignetting with the 35mm so maybe buy one and try it on both lenses.

Stephen Gandy lists them for $45 BUT only sells whem with the 40/1.4, looks like they['re short on stock.And I presume the LH-4 (bayonet mount) which is for the 35/2.5, doesn't fit.

The C/V shade will fit on the 50 Zeiss-Ikon, but it is NOT springloaded. I wedged mine on with a small piece of paper. Not high-tech, but it works and you don't have to remove the hood to take off/put on the lenscap. Rich Pinto at Photo Village sells 'em without the 40/1.4 attached. ;-)
