An Idea

Since the launch of the RF book project an idea keeps on surfacing. We have a collection of international photographers here and it is possible that we publish a monthly online picture magazine in pdf format on the sights and lifes of different cultures around the world. We could have our own 'Life' or 'National Geographics'. So what do you say? :D

Peter, I say that sounds like a great idea ! :D However, we shouldn't underestimate the task it may suppose, but even if it's a 3 months publication sounds very nice :)

Sounds great!
Something vaguely "etnographic", i.e. Like "NG" or "Life" would be interesting... With some text/essays added to the photos, it would definitely be interesting for a wider audience....

Great!!
But I agree with Taffer that 3 months will be better.

Heh, i actually do something very similar to that. I try to portray the different nationalities gathered here in Eindhoven, Netherlands, via one representative of each. I always pick persons i know well, so i am sure they are representative and i try to select the portrait that shows most of their character.
So far i don't have alot of them, but i'm in the middle of "producing" these portraits. I know, you talk about something different, but still, there are similarities. You can see it in form of a presentation on photo.net: "people on earth" http://www.photo.net/photodb/presentation.tcl?presentation_id=203299

So. Conclusion: i'd love to contribute to your idea/project as well.

A super idea! How much writing should go with the photos?

I suppose anything between mini essays and untitled would be fine, so long as the reader/viewer can place the photo, culturally and socially as well as aesthetically.

Sounds like a good idea, especially the part about every three months. Perhaps even a little more breathing room at the beginning, or even no set schedule, just when there are enough photos to make it worth while. Photos from different countries, or sub-cultures within a country would be great to help others understand who they are sharing the world with.

Nice idea.

I like the idea Peter, I also agree that a quarterly publication would be best.

Todd

Yes I guess a quarterly makes more sense for our more busy members. We could use the format in National Geographics, photo-essays on landscape, culture and people. Photos will be followed by a short essay to describe the story behind the pictures. Now we need a name for the e-magazine and an editorial team.

I think that we could compile the photo-essays and articles in an e-magazine pdf format and put on the RFF for others to download. We could get our talented photographers' work be seen and at the same time raise the profile and recognition of RFF. Does that sound good to you Jorge? :)

Interesting idea! I'd love to see more of you talented friends work. "Nikonians" puts their ezine in PDF, works fine for me.

I could do the compilation and editing of the e-magazine after I receive the photo-essay submissions. Now all we need is a name for the proposed magazine. How about Frameline? :)
