Having just joined the group I thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself.
I'm Mark Wahlster 47 camera nut and dumptruck driver married wife and two sailors one in Japan (my son a Radar system ET) and one in reserves (in Portland OR. about to get married (she's driving me nuts) I live in Silverton, OR (about 45 miles south of Portland)
OK now the important stuff, I'm a huge Canon FD user with 14+ bodies and 45+ lenses from 17mm to 600mm.
I am also a budding Canon RF collector (mostly cause I kind of ran out of FD stuff to buy LOL)
I have: A pair of Canonet G-III QL-17's (one chrome and a Black one that should arrive in a few days coming from a trade with a friend in Romaina) I have two other Canonets but they are loaned out and I have no idea if I'll get paid for them!
I also have a perfect working and very nice looking 1951 model III that I have a Rapid Winder attached to. This camera made me decide to sell off my Leica IIIf RD and IIIg since once I got it I never took them out for a spin (not as user friendly) I just recieved a very nice 1957 L-1 (picked up off ebay) It will get a full tune up a little later this spring when the construction season gets into full swing and money isn't so tight. My repair guy has looked it over already and said it will end up perfect since the only real problem is with the shutter speeds and everything else is in such good shape (slow speeds won't close until the button is released)
For optics I currently have:
35mm f1.8 Black and chrome WOW is all I can say about this little wonder)
50mm f1.8 " " " As above (I recieved a 2nd one of these with the L-1 but it will need some attension before use and I will most likely sell it to help afford other Canon optic's)
100mm f4.0 Seranar(an OK lens but not a favorite
135mm f3.5 Canon Chrome (i'll most likely replace this with a later one soon)
I kept from my Leica stuff:
5cm f2.8 Elmar collapsible (a totally fantastic optic)
9cm f4.0 Elmar A36 (this one will likely be sold as soon I find a Canon 85mm )
135mm f4.5 Hektor (this one is for sale)
I'm planning on adding a few lenses and a couple more bodies to the list this summer when I'm working 65 hours a week and it seams like I can afford new toys.
I'm going to be mentioned in the forward of Peter Kitchingman's new book on Canon RF's but I'm only a nut not a real expert or anything.
I'm looking forward to having another group to torment (some of you my have run into me on various Canon or Leica groups and will know what I'm talking about)
So I guess that will lay most of the cards on the table for now.

Welcome! I'm also a fan of Canon FD (and pre-FD, the old FL stuff) SLR cameras. The sharpest photo I ever took was with a Canon FX SLR and a Canon 135mm f2.5 lens - worth maybe $50 on eBoy on a good day. Hehehehe, nobody buys this stuff and I am a happy boy.
I am also a Canon RF fan, but unlike ever buddy else here, I don't have a Canon RF other than my Canonet. I have the Canon 50mm f1.4, 50mm f1.8 (chrome but not Serenar), 85mm f1.9, two chrome 135mm f3.5's and one black 135mm f3.5. I also have a plethora of 'third-party' 135mm LTM lenses - I just can't seem to quit buying them - and nobody else seems to want 'em. I just got an Arco Colinar 135mm f3.8 that is very sharp, and a Komura 135mm f2.8 that is fast but a bit less sharp. I have a Canon 100/4.0 coming soon (hopefully) from eBoy. Not expecting much from it, just rounding out the collection.
Well, that's about it - we're all crazy here, so welcome!
BTW - one of my best friends is a SFC in the Oregon Nat'l Guard in Portland. He's their Training NCO. Hope he's ok. We were in the Marines together a lifetime ago.

I'm an FD fan too (T-90, F-1N, A-1, FTb) + lenses, but my collection pales a bit compared to yours. I've also got a Canonet QL-17 G-III, a Serenar 50/1.8 for my Bessa, and an A-70 digicam!

I was going to add that Joe needs reinforcements.
The L1 is nice; I just got my Vt back from Essex. It came out great, that trigger winder takes some getting used to. Had to have one to go with the Plunger wind of the Vitessa.
You sound like you are as nuts on Canon as I am Nikon. I have been "Canonized", currently with Three Canon 7 cameras- one bought off of Ebay and just DIY repaired yesterday, the Vt, L1 (for sale, giving it a week to say I did my duty), a couple of repaired Canonets waiting for test pics to come back, An F1, and most recently: a Pellix QL with a perfect mirror. That latter one is neat. The camera so unusual that Nikon bought Pellix bodies and transplanted the mirror to make the Nikon F High-Speed. I'm not going to do that!

I see you have just got an L1. This is a really nice camera, in fact I just sold my P because I prefer the L1. The only real downsides are no parallax compensation (unless you have a Canon accessory finder) and turning the shutter speed dial can't be done in a hurry. But there is something very special about the L1, it's just difficult to put one's finger on exactly what it is. Anyway, I hope you enjoy you L1 as much as I enjoy mine...

Brian my next Canon RF body will either be a P or a VT (the origional version) I collect to a list. Another words I will decide what I want and then try to within my abilities stick to that list. For the RF bodies my list is based on a type of Bi yearly advancement of sorts. I picked out 6 bodies I want.

I managed to get my L-1 off ebay for only $202.50 USD and once I have the 50mm f1.8 that came with it cleaned up and sold I will be into the L-1 for even less.
Lawrence your comments about the parallax and shutter button are well noted. But with an RF I tend to shoot a little loose so the parallax is really only a problem close up. The shutter button I'll just have to live with.

My Canon's are a 300D, EOS 650, A70, AE-1 w/ 28mm & 50/1.2, Canonet 28 & a GIII QL17. I would love to get my hands on a LTM Canon, but the finances are leaning towards a 350D first.

My wife has given up on killing me. I'd just come back to repair dead cameras. At least prices of MIOJ Canons is not insane as are Nikons. I saw a Nikon M with sync (1951) PARTS CAMERA go for over $1,600. I got lucky and stumbled into one last month at an antique store priced as a Nikon S.
I have used O-Rings around the glass-killing eyepiece of the Leica M3, and will do the same if the Vt is bad. I use the Vt and L1 in cases, and that offers some relief. I put a rubber stick-on "foot" on the Hi-Lo switch of the Canon 7 to save my glasses. The Selenium meter is accurate on all of the Canon 7 cameras. The latest is the needs-repair one that was "flagged" here last week. The frameline window was busted out and the meter was flaky. Turns out the window bent the needle tray and jammed it into the needle. Worked fine after bending it back into place. Getting the a-r ring is the only pain of getting the top plate back on. It has to be flat, the frameline selector in place, and the three a-r ring set screws all even . Otherwise, the shutter release jams. But all in all, the Canon 7 is a good bargain for LTM cameras.

As to wife killing me over the cameras LOL Hers are upstair on her desk! I got her into Canon FD about the time I had my fifth body. Now she has a pair of AE-1P's and a few lenses she keeps in her bag. Her favorite being the little Tokina 28-70mm f3.5/4.5 SD a very very good little zoom that sells for nothing on ebay the last one went for under $35.00.
The only pc. of camera gear she has gotten hot over was a 600mm f4.5 nFD that I'm still in the process of restoring (don't ask it was a huge mess) I paid more then I should have and if I don't keep it I will lose money on it (and she knew that as soon as she saw it LOL)
But it keeps me home and when I go it's to do photography not cat around or go drinking and since she goes with it's all cool. Well except for the 600mm f4.5 nFD
