I just got an old print dryer, and it has two brushed aluminum surfaces.

I thought this commonly came with ferrotype plates.

Was brushed aluminum a common surface for dryers?

I recall the thread on ferrotype plates, are such things still available?

The brushed surface is normal. Ferrotype plates are typically used between the apron and the dryer surface. You can still buy them on ebay.

There are few dryers made with ferrotyping surfaces where you see brushed metal but when the surface became scratched you had to buy plates anyway.

The aprons are a common way of staining your prints. Make sure they are spotless. Replace the canvas if needed.
