Quote! One negative: I think the prices for rfs on evilbay are rising.
I fact I beleive film camera prices in general are on the rise on the bay. Long live film?

I came across this remark by, Ducky while reading Stephen's update of how the RFF community is growing and Stephen, for your information, I'm with FrankS.

The reading of the above was aptly timed as little more than twenty-four hours had passed since I popped in to my local camera shop to buy a litre of fixer. In the past I would purchase Ilford as it was always in stock and a personal favourite though back in the dark days of Ilford's demise and rebirth my local camera shop began to stock, Fotospeed, which I started to use and still do. It does the job and is much cheaper at £6.15 compared to the Ilford equivalent at £8.00 for the same amount. SCORE-----Fotospeed 1. Ilford 0.

While in the shop I noticed that, Ilfosol 's' was marked up at £4.25! No, I didn't read it wrong, sadly. Once again due to my local camera shop stocking Fotosped FD10 at £2.50 as an alternative to Ilford I started to use it and still do, though only as a fall back, or if mixing up ID11 is not viable (too lazy!) as it does the job, but I don't find it anything special. SCORE---- Fotospeed 2. Ilford 0.

I did a quick survey on the net and the price of Ilfosol 's' is anywhere between £3.00 & £3.15 which still a tad more than the £2.50 it once was. Film (bulk) price seems to be on the increase as well as most 30m rolls now seem to be around £33.00 to £35.00 though with one example being £38.00 for 30m of 'Delta' 100.

I realise of course, that manufactures and suppliers are not charities and that taxes add a considerable amount to any purchase. But, the difference between a reasonable increase due to increased over heads and a straight, up front hike is, loss of sales, both for manufactures and suppliers as we, the consumers, will shop around for a better deal and if needs be, switch loyalties for even though they say that 'Blood is thicker than water.' it's not a thick as fixer!

I would much prefer to use Ilford, but I'm not going to pay almost £2.00 more for the privilege. If I was a pro then yeah, sure, I can pass on the cost to my client, but, I'm not, I'm just a lowly, underpaid overworked I.T network consultant who's mistress and passion is, photography.

If memory serves: I believe it was, Roger Hicks, who once said “The best way to keep film alive is to get out there and use it.” A statement I whole heartedly agree with. Only; I hope, that in the process of keeping film live, the manufactures and our suppliers are not, using------us!
Take care out there.
