Another pending purchase snatched by another buyer (probably from USA).
I was negotiating a purchase of a nice SS M3 (1966 vintage) from USA on P.net...
Lost to another buyer in the States. The seller probably didn't want to go through the trouble of selling and sending to Europe...
And, then there's the R2 with 35/2 'Cron the other day here on RFF
I must be cursed... Or blessed - depends how you look at it. Somebody up there keeps the fool from parting with his money

Keep in mind that when a door closes, another one opens, and that very often, things happen for a reason.

Denis,
I believe the Great Spirit works that way at times (watching over our wallets when our wives are otherwise occupied)
. I recently bid about twice what I should have on three different items, thinking for sure they would be mine at considerably less than what I bid, and lost all three -- and then breathed a sigh of relief afterwards.
I can complete a US only purchase for you if you find something not available outside the states.

Thanks for the kind words, guys...
Well, I guess I'm better off this way.
This way I still got some spare cash to take with me in two weeks when I go to Austria to a used camera show in Graz. I seem to remember a couple of guys with Leicas there... Never paid any attention to those before: -What, a Leeka? Naaaah, waaaay too expensive for me....
Doug, thanks very much for the kind offer, but I think it would be more hassle than it's worth - particularly for you. It just adds to the confusion and makes the whole transaction too complicated... Still, you never know

No trouble at all if you find something that you feel is worth pursuing. On this end all it involves is a simple customs form, and that offer stands for any forum member. The tables turn -- I might need some "Japan market only" Fuji film some day, or who knows what

Well, Doug, in return I can only think of Efke film...
How about some in 127 size?
Or some Russian gear?
Seriously, if I really do come across something, I'll keep you in mind...

Bummer Denis, I bought a lens a month or so ago from South Africa and still waiting for it to show up. Tracking number shows it left SA and is enroute to NYC. Sigh..

denis, take heart, I"m sure you'll chance across a great deal later which will make you go "gosh what a blessing my previous deals didn't go thru else I wont' have the cash to buy this now!". happened to me recently, got an elmar off ebay for a crazy low price, and coincidentally the shop selling it was located exactly in the city my friend was going to travel to for a conference (the city is in another country not my own). well to cut it short, my friend helped me check the lens before buying it and found it was much worse than described on ebay with dodgy sellers to boot and helped me save the money. So I lost out on a great deal but it was a blessing instead!

Nah, if I say anything the damn lens is bound not to show at all...
My real big-little purchase however is a new camera (sshhh....) that I am hoping I will see in a week or so.....

It is more expensive, but you might try offering to pay for Global Express Service. It provides an international tracking number and is very fast. I sent a finder to Austria via "Air Parcal Post" so that I could insure it. After 8 weeks it came back to ME. The buyers parents refused delivery when he was away on a trip; they did not want to pay the VAT. He sent me an extra $50 to re-send it to him after I offered him a refund on the item less the shipping costs. It got to him within a week, and I could track it. Additional paperwork, but the seller can track what is going on with the shipment.
