hi,
after using electro 35s, im after a good scale focus 35 as theyre a tad lighter and smaller ;)
without starting an argument, which ones would be a good purchase? i want a smallish camera with good optics and good reliability. ive been looking at rolleis, xa's (i know its an rf) xa2's and even p&s yash t4/5's. so a bit of advice would be very welcome!
cheers

What do you want to know? They are all fine cameras. You must make the choice for yourself. Which camera feels right for you?

There's a hidden gem - Electro 35 MC (stands for micro camera, maybe). It's simply great small camera to carry in palm all day around. Same idea as with G/GS/GSN - you set aperture and stepless Copal shutter does the rest. No RF, though, you just set distance on lens, in finder are three common symbols as shortcuts for ~1.5, 3 and infinity. Lens is sweet, too. Together with exposures up to 4sec it can be used also as "low light camera" when going light.

In a word, MC is Av counterpart to Tv based 35 RC (OK, RC manual camera with speed priority add-on, but you got idea). MC is even bit smaller that RC, just lens is not significantly longer.

Compared to XA2, MC stands out with aperture control and longer times, if that matters. Wind lever is faster than thumbwheel, too. XA2 is great and MC is even better :) Both are battery dependent, just to note, MC has fallback to default 1/500th as Electro RF's.

It's always a case of what suits you - suits you to use and handle, suits you with the results you get from the shots you take.
That Yashica 35MC is certainly a nice little camera and possibly has the edge on a Ricoh 35ZF or 35ST. All three aren't fashion cameras and can be picked up for very reasonable prices on eBay.
I find eBay a very odd marketplace. Sellers descriptions are always related to their personal experience and not necessarily yours. One person's 'fully working' might not be yours and even if you ask the seller a question before you bid, you might not always get a helpful answer. However as some of these cameras are going for less than £5 + p&p there isn't a great deal to lose if you get a dud, and you might just get a 'cracker'.
Do your homework though and don't rush into buying - there is a lot of information to 'Google' through.

Before MC I considered getting 35ZF, though for that time several bidders were out for ZF and they inflated price far over limit I'd pay. But if price is right, it's camera to get.

how good are the lenses on the xa & xa2? is the xa4 any good? i love yashicas so the 35mc is being noted, theres a 35zf on ebay at the mo' for £35!
ive been put off rolleis having read a bit more about them on here!
thanks for your replies!

Hi Ccaveman
Think £35 is well well over the top for a Ricoh 35ZF.
Found one last month for £5.50 and that included a skylight filter and instruction book. OK - no case and someone had put a postcode on the base. Factor in the filter and instructions and the camera cost very little!
Set up a search on ebay and wait for a response. I reckon that about £12.50 is the limit for this classification of camera - Konica C35s go for less than this.
