Clayton chemistry? I was considering buying a container of their "oderless" fixer. Does anyone feel strongly about any fixer in particular? If so, why?

personally, im partial to photographer's formulary tf-4. it's odorless, fixes fiber in 1 minute, don't have to use clearing agent, and use a water stop for the developer. it's a bit more pricey than some others, but has great advantages. also has cut down my wash cycle times.

since it's non-hardening, i still use a standard fixer for film (nacco).

sorry, haven't tried clayton.

Clayton odorless fixer is very good, like many others.
I used theirs for the last year or so, clears film very fast.

I think their developers are worth a look as well.

Is there a reason you did not include "Clayton chemistry" in your subject line? "An opinion on..." is quite vague and many who may know or have an opinion about Clayton chemistry might just ignore or miss it. Not like you had a subject line that was too long.

I use the "odorful" Clayton fixer for fixing my film and find it not too strong smelling and works fine, so I choose not to pay extra for the odorless version.

I would have a big problem with odorless fixer - I'd use it instead of D-76? Label my bottles, you say? NEVER!

Well, I labeled my Diafine A and B, but that's different.

Let the fixer stink the joint up!

PS - No experience with Clayton, but I've also never met anyone who had anything bad to say about it - people seem to like it just fine.

I share my "darkroom" with the cat's litter tray. The smell of fixer is never an issue.

To stay on topic, I have no opinion re Clayton chemistry as it's not available here. I'm told Fotospeed odourless fixer is good.

My subject line was written to draw the reader into the thread. It's a cheap litererary device I learned in community college.

One possibly important thing about fixer is how it behaves as it becomes exhausted. Is the Clayton stuff intended for one-shotting? Do fixing times gradually increase or does it go off suddenly like Xtol? And, will it stain your clothes? Those are things I'd want to know about the particular fixer. I've only seen good things about Clayton stuff across the board.

Me too to not minding the smell of fixer. It doesn't fill the room, and it reminds me of the wings at Duff's in Buffalo. I don't want to know any more than that. 😱

AFAIK all fixers can be reused and times get longer progressively. Every several rolls is a good measure to drop a piece of leader and see how long it takes to clear.

Stain clothes? I donm;t think so.... actually fixer is one of the few things you can use to clean iodine stains.

As per the smell, it has some but is not so noxious as others.
