Hi folks,

I'm going out there on Sunday, just wondering if you have any recommendations where I can get film? I am hoping to avoid the 2x xray doses at LHR for transatlantic flights. Actually if there are any good labs I could get it dev'ed there too since I hear LAX security is fairly bad.

Preferrably walking distance since I don't have access to a car...

Thanks in advance!

Best place for film is Freestyle on Highland Blvd in Hollywood. If you plan your route from LAX to Pasadena correctly this can be on your way. If not, it isn't far an dthe neighborhood is interesting.

Re: LAX security... you got some bad data.

Also... Samy's... which I don't have personal experience with but they are well known as a full-service pro shop:

49 E Walnut St, Pasadena

Samy's in Pasadena has full line for films, they open till 5:00 pm on Sunday.

Outstanding, that should be easy enough to make, alternatively will try Freestyle.
Thanks much, knew I could count on you folks for reasonably up-to-date info :)

I live in Pasadena and I happen to have some film for sale. What you need?

Sammy's is very expensive. The Walmart in Duarte will process anything for a fraction of what Sammy's or other camera shops charge.

Trader Jims has decent pricing, Sammy's is about 50cents over what it should be.

Lax is OK, they do hand checks (usually), and most understand a little about film...It is LA

If you have spare time and lots of cash, Bagnall's monthly camera show in Carson, CA is Sunday. It starts at 9:30 a.m. Lots of film and lots of used rangefinder cameras to choose from. Admission fee is US $5.00

I feel like a child in a candy store, whenever I go. Still do, after 11 years...

Home from work now... yes, Samy's prices do seem a little on the expensive side although I don't really know what the going rate is over there. Here it's far cheaper from the channel islands (no VAT). Anyway, I digress...

Camera show - yes, great idea, thanks for reminding me! The idea seems somewhat alien so it will be somewhat interesting.

Any airport over there is probably better than LHR regarding film.

Thanks everybody, you've been very helpful!

Freestyle is cool, I go there sometimes just to see (and hold) all the shiney new pretty cameras.

Had a look at their web site, they have a better range of stuff than my usual camera shops put together!

Will try to make it down there. My 1 week is going to be a bit busy :)

Freestyle is fun, if you can go there I suggest it.
Especially seek out the tall, slender saleswoman with the somewhat husky voice and no sense of humor at all (meaning... VERY DRY sense of humour). She's a laugh-a-minute and quite knowledgable.
