Anybody know a good rechromer?

I have a M3 that is so good that I would like to refurbish it. However, Leica Solms will only replace the top plate, not rechrome it (at an outrageous price I might add) Does anybody know somebody who would do a good job of rechroming the top plate, preferably but not necessarily in Europe?

Well, Stephen advised against rechroming anyway, on grounds that virtually nobody can do it properly and that it depreciates the camera. Ah well- I just wanted to do it to impress the girls, I suppose...

why not, as mick'n'keef suggested, Paint It Black? Several people do it, it looks damn cool, too.

You can get it done by Shintaro - he did my M4, did a fabulous job, tho was very slow (you can find it in the cameras'n'coffee thread!), check out his website with pix of his fantasic MP-alike:

ALso CRR in Luton do repaints, too, which can be very economical if you combinewiht a CLA. Website is

If you look at photo.net, someone there did an excellent DIY job, for if you're on a budget. You could get an automobile shop to strip the chrome, which is the difficult/dangerous part, and black enamel is not too hard to spray. IN fact, I bet a automobile / bike shop would respary the camera if you can dismantle it.
