am i the only one? you guys all seem pretty old, focusing on photography as just a hobby. this isnt an insult, jusy wondering if theres anyone else on here still "young" and in school.

I believe we are all students of photography regardless of age!

You're still pretty young. No offense meant.

:)

I'm doing a course, although it's in the evenings. Never enjoyed education as much as this before.

Thoroughly recommended, and, oddly, I'd say >80% of the students are young and female...

Those kind make the best models! :)

I got my degree in Photography, but no more classes for me right now. Maybe someday, unless you count language courses! I'm trying to find one for Polish right now. No such luck though! :(

Definitely a student, and definitely not of photography. Photography is a passion of mine...

It's like, say you enjoy sex, you love sex, whatever... does that mean you want to be a sex therapist or a porn star? I sure as hell wouldn't...

w/ that said, I enjoy having a major that has nothing to do w/ photography... though the fact that i have a camera and a chest full of condoms on my nightstand might indicate otherwise. ;-)

(Moderators, if this is too graphic or obscene for discussion, please feel free to delete it, but do also notify me via PM so that I know not to act such, again...)

I'm a student of IT, but I love photography. Computer networking and administration is not exactly a hobby, at least not to me. Photography can be a career or just a hobby. I think I will always do photography as a hobby but I'd also like to try working as a photojournalist and/or landscape/nature/wildlife photog.

Just about to become a student again... starting my Ph.D in March.

In physics though, not photography... but I hear the uni has a darkroom! :)

Have fun. It's a long, long ride. There's a light at the end of the tunnel for me and I'm hoping its not a train. What area of physics?

My school has 2-3 darkrooms, but I was unable to gain access. To use the real darkroom you had to take a class. I'm really trying to finish up here and didn't have time during the week for a class. The other darkrooms were in undergrad dorms, and grad students aren't allowed to have free access to those dorms. So I turned my bathroom into one. Actually I'm pretty happy with it.

I'm always learning, though I'm not nor have I ever been enrolled in an official photography course.

My Ph.D is going to be in "Molecular Electronics" (or Molectronics...) You probably know about as much as me what that means right now, but essentially I'm going to be looking at devices that use organic molecules to create diodes etc.. thus, for example, making possible a chip that is several orders of magnitude smaller than the silicon equivalent.. Or something like that. Bit of a cross-over into chemistry as well which is going to be challenging... Some of the names of these molecules take up several lines.

You're a physicist as well, I assume?

I'm a philosophy major with literature as my first minor. They're introducing "history and theory of photography" into the art history department next year so I might take that as a second minor. I haven't decided yet.
