Anyone ever overdeveloped?

I'm really wondering what happens if you leave a roll in the developer too long. Does it eat all the emulsion away to nothing?

I haven't done it yet but I'm really curious to try it just to see, so I know.

Is there really a "too long"?

Aw, ta heck with it. I have a roll of Fuji Neopan SS laying around that I don't remember what's on it... must not be that important...

I'm gonna throw it in what's left of the developer I've got and leave it there for a while and see what happens!

tmax 400. 2-3 minutes too much in Pyrocat HD resulted in a large pper like grain ...

Is agitation good? Or does it not let the developer do it's job?

The Dev Chart doesn't have a combination for Neofin Blau and Fuji Neopan 100 SS, soooooo.......

I'm going for 25 minutes at stock solution with lots of agitation.

The keyword to search for is 'pushing'. Under exposing and over developing film is referred to as pushing. For example, I had a roll of 400 speed film on me when I found myself at an evening parade.

Shooting at 400, I would have been around 1/10th of a second so I shot the film as if I had 1600 speed film in the camera. To help compensate for under exposing the film, I over developed it.

The results you get will depend on a bunch of factors, film/developer pair, the exposures themselves, how far you push it, etc.

Those shots did come out really well, I like them.

After putting down my dev can and typing something somewhere else for a moment, I reached for the can again and grabbed my soda and started sloshing it around.... until I realized my soda doesn't need agitation.....

Well that was a bust! This Neopan SS 100 just will not develop. 25 minutes in stock Neofin Blau and it's still a little dark. Maybe I should have tried an hour.

Can't try it again till I get some more stop-bath, I'm out. Oh, well.

Anyone ever overdevelop? Yes. Me. Frequently. But not for a few decades.

More contrast.

More density.

Less sharpness.

Bigger grain.

ALL are directly proportional to development. A little more = a small difference. A lot more = a big difference.
