... not that I'd undertake anything complicated by myself (too risky!), but it would be handy to have for simpler stuff.

I downloaded the PDF "Leica basic repair" (7-page PDF), but I'm looking for something more detailed.
Also, my repair guy would benefit from something like that, since he hasn't worked on many Leicas...
He wasn't able to adjust the high speeds on my M2 up to specs (1/1000 is more like 1/400), and said he'd rather not meddle with that... 🙁

And the nearest available service that does Leicas is across the border 🙁

Anyway, I'd appreciate any pointers for cheap sources of Leica repair literature.
A PDF would be great, if you have one 😀

Denis

(Edit: the correct name of the 7-page PDF I have is "Factory tips on the M-series Leicas")

Thankyou!

The Leica appears to be more like a finicky sportscar to operate; many more adjustments than most other cameras but really hums when done perfectly.

Thanks for the welcome, nice to see The Dominion so well represented here. Howzit goin' eh?

Denis & Brian:
Your most welcome. Hope this document translates into a good discount next time your camera tech works on your M2.

To anyone contemplating a self-administered overhaul on their Leica, based on the availability of this manual, I'll just post Leitz's warning...

DD, based on that manual and the one I got previously (7-page one), I tried to bring the shutter speeds up to snuff, just adjusting the curtain springs, which is easy to do - not much disassembly required (just remove the three screws holding the plate with loading diagram on the bottom).
I *did* manage to improve the speeds slightly, but not by much. Looks like it's going to get a CLA on the shutter speeds by a pro, after all...
I think the slit width has to be adjusted, too, and it requires some serious disassembly.
However, my repair guy will be glad to get that manual!!!

Thanks again,

Denis

I could use a manual like that for a IIIc. I looked on the site and it's hard to find anything.

Gordy,

I think I have a pdf somewhere that covers IIIf and, possibly IIIc - it's too big for here, I'll see if I can put it on one of the free download servers and send you a link.

Gordy,

Take a look in the LTM Forum - I have posted some generic Barnack info - will follow up with the IIIf manual shortly, not IIIc but a lot of it is transferrable.

will be a nice addition...

That will be greatly appreciated to add to my little library. I love my IIIf, and who knows when a IIIc may join my IIIa. Do you suppose I could put them in a dark room...... 😀 Nawww.. with my luck I'd get a FED fake..
