I just got a 35mm Summilux, just wondering if anyone here has used one and if they have any example pics. From what I have read it was made as a purposely low contrast lens in order to get decent pics from high contrast situations. Also have read about easy flare ups. Any thoughts on the lens? Pointers?
Thanks

I assume you mean a pre-ASPH Summilux 35, because the ASPH version clearly does not match your description.

The original 35mm Summilux is only a low contrast lens wide open, and to a lesser extent at f/2. By f/2.8 its performance is essentially identical to the 4th gen. Summicron. I doubt the low contrast was intentional...it was probably just the best Leitz could do at the time. Accepting the fact that wide-open performance is a bit soft and flare-y as well as low in contrast it's a pretty darn good lens.

Thanks David. Is it safe to assume that when you stop down flare isn't as much as a problem wide open?
