Anyone know of recent sales of RF 2.1cm Nikkor?

I see a bunch on ebay but no sales. No sales at Westlicht that I could see either.

It looks like people just don't want to pay the ridiculous prices.

Why do you ask? Have one for sale?

Yes, bought it years ago.

Once in a while think about whether it deserves a more appreciative owner.

But it is so rare that I think if I needed money, I should liquidate my more common items.
 
Such a lens (SLR version with finder) could be bought for $400-$500 two years ago. The RF version will cost more.

In your case, Vikko, check what Kevin Cameras asks for, and sell your for 20%-30% less.
 
Thanks RAID. I also looked at keh.com. They have an online quote for me selling the lens to them and typically quote 50% of their selling price. They don't even list the 2.1cm f4 RF as an option.
 
It seems to me that most of the very rare / valuable Nikkor RF lenses have made their way to dealers or at least highly optimistic people that have priced them beyond their true value, either as a collectible or a usable lens.

Another example is the 5cm f/1.1. There are several up for sale on eBay at $4k, up to $6k and more. When one came up at auction last year with some negligible problems that could be fixed by a repair tech for a couple hundred bucks tops, it sold for around $1500.

Those lenses seem to be overpriced at around 50% at least, so using that same logic with the 2.1cm, I think realistically it should really be priced at $3k to $4k, if one actually needed to sell it.

The problem with the 2.1cm of course is you can get the same lens w/ F-mount and a cheap F body w/ no prism for less than $700 or so. Though the 2.1cm F-mount has been climbing in price rapidly for some reason. I have an extra that I will be selling myself. Point being is the 2.1cm is of less interest to shooters, only collectors.

Yep. The 3 examples that I know of that are actively for sale, and have been for years, are two on eBay and one at Igor Camera. Two of them are about $7,000, the other is over $8,000.

They don't sell for that kind of money, which is why they remain for sale :D

If anyone has the lens and no finder I can point them to dealer who has one for £349, (I'm regrettably not on commission) which I have no idea if that is a good price or not.

Some 21's might only be worth a few thousand dollars, others would be worth 10k, all depends on condition, boxes, shade etc. I have seen 21's in marginal condition, and a few which are like new, with box etc. The rear cap alone, if it is missing or broken lowers the price by 1000.

Nikon only made 298 of these lenses. I wonder how many still have intact rear caps?

True, but still the prices on the 5cm f/1.1 seem to be out of line with their value. On the other hand, CV never made that 50mm f/1.1 Nokton for S-mount unfortunately, so it does represent an item almost impossible to get for the Nikon RF system...

At a guess, I'd say the cap you spotted was for the F-mount version of the lens. They're far more numerous and look very similar ;)

No idea of price, but years ago I adapted an F mount 21 to Leica and used it until the finder gave up.

When the sun was in the frame it created a quite nice star-effect, and its depth of field of course gave nice depth to landscape snaps.

Conclusion; the F-version may still be worth using rather than hoarding.

Not so sure if its important to get, but the rear cap for the S-mount 2.1cm certainly is expensive to get (and nigh on impossible to find on its own).

The only aftermarket rear lens cap that I know fits the S-mount 2.1cm is the aluminium cap made by Hansa, and its now discontinued and sold out. The plastic CV rear lens caps for the external S and SC mount lenses don't fit as they're not deep enough. So DIY is the only option now.

The prewar Zeiss biogon rear cap is very deep and may fit ,
Or try one from a Jupiter biogon .
Post war Zeiss caps marked Stuttgart are not as deep as prewar variety .
The prewar is a heavy chrome type marked Zeiss jena .
