I am waiting for the delivery of a CLA'd Moskva 5 from SovietCamera. I hope my example will live up to the good impressions I've gotten of this camera from other users and websites. The other thing which drew me to it was the choice of 6x9 OR 6x6.
Unfortunately, mine doesn't have its 6x6 mask insert and I like composing in squares. From my research the masks look somewhat complicated to make, mostly due to the holes on the edge and the rails? near each long edge which keep it in position. Also, they are quite pricey to buy separately (at least to me, considering what they are). Has anyone had any luck trying to manufacture one from either thin gauge metal or matboard/cardstock or something similar? Thanks!

The original masks also have little dimples along the edge, perhaps to help hold the film flat.
One of my Moskva's came with an original mask and another came with a DIY cardboard one. The cardboard version was taped in place with something that looked like Mystic tape (I haven'y seen any Mystic tape in years). It looks like it should fine. The tape was on the opposite side of the film, that is it was taped from inside of the bellows so that tape did not touch the film. I never tried it, because I use the Moskva in 6X9. I have other cameras for 6X6.
If I were going to make a DIY version, I would use card stock and Gaffer's tape, but I would use basically the same setup.

Here are some shots front and back of a mask I sold along with my M-5. Yes, it was in need of stripping and repainting due to corrosion.

Thanks! They should help out when I get the camera and start making a mask. If the results are good, I'll post my "plans" in case anyone else is interested.
