Hi,
I haven't tried it but I have heard about it. Apparently it is very good for glass/metal construction lenses but under no circumstances should it be used on polymers. I certainly wouldn't like to try it on any of the very modern lenses and I would be very wary about using it on ant with a asperical element as these can often be done with polymers.

I picked up a Lens Pen and will keep with that for now. It is easy to use and carry.

Years ago there was something similar on the market to clean analog records, worked fine then. For my lenses I stay with the Zeiss kit.

If you look at the FAQ, you will see the reference to plastics. One of the solvents used is acetone hence the warning about plastic mounts.

What is the Zeiss kit like? I remember some talk of it a while back on another list, but when I checked there were two Zeiss products.

It's called portable lens care system. Contains a few pre moistured lens cloths, a lens brush, lens cleaner, cotton tipped sticks and a micro fiber cloth. Can be used for quick and thorough cleaning.

I found it to be the very best solution against fingerprints.

That is a neat idea. I would most likely fingerprint up the lens trying to get it off. lol

I breathe on the lens and wipe off the mist (not German mist) with a soft cotton cloth or micro fiber cloth.

I recommend a brisk run 'round the block followed by a dip in a frosty pool.

I have lenses I have had for thirty years, with no ill effects from Kodak lens cleaning tissue and moisture from my breath, or lens cleaning fluid for stuborn dirt. I usuallly use a blower brush, sometimes the brush portion, sometimes only the tissue. The tissue can be rolled up, then pulled into two sections at the middle and feathered, which becomes a throwaway brush. I just never trusted being able to clean a micro fiber cloth. I know many do it, but I just never felt good about.

I also like to keep a UV filter on lenses when possible. As Ed Romney said in this book, Revised Basic Training in Camera Repair, keep the lens clean, don't keep cleaning the lens. It has worked for me.

I have and do still use Opti-Clean on all my lenses, new and old. I find it the best of all methods I have tried. I prefer it as no Material, fabric based or not ever comes into contact with the lens.

I have experienced no ill effects whatsoever. So from me it comes highly recommended.

Agree Opti-Clean is a good product. I just use it once to 'deep clean' eBay purchases of lenses and filters from eBay, then the normal lens cleaner and tissues for any required subsequent cleans.

The best results were from allowing the film to cure completely - in a warm place overnight - and makes the job of removing the film and the contaminants, dust, etc far easier.

Bought mine from 7dayshop.com a bit cheaper awhile back, but they don't seem to carry in any more. They also supplied the very good Peca Products lens cleaning kits - again seem to be out of stock.

I find the Lenspen is simply the absolute best at cleaning any lens no matter how dirty. Cloths and other materials seem to be a lot of effort and I get smearing but the lens pen just gets rid of everything quickly and effectively. Cheapest place to get them is at 7dayshop. You do have to replace them after a while as you run out of the carbon/graphite material in the lid to recharge the pad but they're cheap enough that it's not too much of an issue.
