I am thinking about getting one of these rigs, and was wondering a few things about them. Are they a rangefinder? or just a viewfinder. Is the 127mm or the 150mm the best lens, or do I need both (I will do both portraits and general purpose).
I am mainly thinking of this rig for transfers. Is a cheaper polaroid a better option?
Could I also use sheet film in the 600 SE?
If anyone has experience I would love to hear about it, and am also interested in other information as well.

Thanks all.

I am going to bump this for the afternoon crowd. Seems like some of you must have toyed with ne of these in the past. If not, anyone use another system for transfers? I know any polaroid will work, but a little versitility is nice w/o havng to go the Hassie route.

I'd suggest getting a cheaper system and using a Polaroid or NPC back.

The cheapest would be the Kiev 88 or Kowa, but early Mamiya 645 systems are more dependable and are going for extremely low prices as well. Bronicas also come to mind.

All of the above are SLRs, though. If you're bent on getting a press camera, the Mamiya press cameras are cheap and good. The Konica Omega rangefinders are also worth having a look at.

Do have a look at the classifieds. There are quite a number of MF systems for sale in there right now.

I had to decide between the two several years ago, Polaroid 600 or Mamiya Universal. I went with the later. Reasons? Easy adaption of lots of accessories. The 600 is limited with lenses (three) though they are great, the Universal has the same ones, plus a wider 50, and a longer 250, and also a brighter 100.

I think Tony Sansone is back from his stint in the military. Might be time to look him up (the 100 f/2.8 needs a bit of work)
