Hi,

Some time ago I bought a Mamiya 6 with a 75mm lens from forum member mattg. They are in great shape and I am very happy with them.

I wanted to get a 50mm lens for the camera and recently had an opportunity to buy a full 6MF set (body, 50mm, 75mm, 150mm + a couple of filters) at a very good price. The body and 75mm were described as nonfunctional. I really only wanted the 50mm and 150mm lenses (which are both in excellent condition), but the whole kit was only $800 so I couldn't pass it up. (I haven't had a chance to try the 6MF body yet, but the metering LEDs come on. Maybe it works after all!)

The question is now: can the 75mm lens be rescued? The problem is that aperture iris is stuck wide open. Turning the aperture ring does not close it down at all or affect the body's recommended exposure time. The sound and feel of the ring is not the same as the working 75mm: it feels clicky and sounds pingy, rather than feeling solid and making a reassuring, solid "chunk" sound.

Can this sort of thing be fixed?

Cheers,
Rory

I would expect that it can be fixed. If you look up Mamiya's website you can find all of the necessary info on sending the lens to them. They do not charge for estimates, so you might as well send it in and find out exactly what the problem is. For that matter, you might as well send in the body, too. In my experience their customer service has been very good and so have their repairs. They list an average repair estimate of $212 for a lens and $257 for a body. Good luck and congrats on a steal of a deal.
