Dear all
I have a Summicron 35 f2 1st Version 8 elements Germany.
It has a small problem with aperture ring.

- Normally, the aperture ring stops at f2 and we can not turn it to the left. Similarly, it stops at f16 and we can not turn it to the right.
- If I try to hardly turn the aperture ring of my lens when it stops at f2, it still moves to the left (similarly to the right at f16). BUT IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE APERTURE THE BLADES, ONLY OUTSIDE RING MOVES.
- The aperture ring is not loose at all.
- It does not affect the mechanical functions of lens. It just bothers me.

Who know what is problem? Is it normal problem? Does it need a CLA or service?

Thank you for you visiting my post and wait for your reply.

Mine does not turn pass f/2.0 or f/16. Click stops are snappy too. If I recall correctly, there was a part that prevents the aperture ring from turning pass the largest and smallest values. You might want to get your lens checked if it bothers you.

Cheers,

If it freely turns past both extremes, it's not normal. It may be something small and worth having it fixed. I don't know if you want to sell the lens, it is a high priced item and it will certainly sell for more if you can declare that the lens was recently cla'd. Antwerp isn't far from Zoetermeer, The Netherlands where Will van Manen could take care of this.

Think of it this way. When the train comes to the last station on the line, it stops a little short of the bumpers that are placed at the end of the track. Although a little extra room is allowed as an overrun, there is no need to pull up all the way to the bumpers. Your lens is like that. So is my version 1 Summicron, and lots of other lenses.

I asked Youxin and Will van Manen. The problem is normal, it could be that there are loose screws.
Will van Manen suggests that just send it to them to have a CLA, if it bothers me, it costs 75euros.
Thanks all.
