Wish we were going to be in Albuquerque instead of Philly!
I grew up there, just east in Edgewood.
The weather and sky we miss so much.

Out-of-staters and former residents are welcome to post photos of NM and participate in the discussions at the Flickr New Mexico Film Photographers group. Would love to see any old shots you have of the Edgewood area.

The weather report looks good for this Saturday's Meet-UP.

I don't suppose I really need to remind people to bring a camera. Old Town is a short walk from my home and I have visited it with my old cameras nearly every day for the past ten years. The neighborhood is not very extensive, but somehow there are always new subjects to photograph.

New Mexicans won't be surprised by tomorrow's meet-up day prediction of sunny weather, but the 83 deg. high is unusual for this time of year. I'm really looking forward to meeting some photographers whose work I have followed on line. It still seems somewhat miraculous to me when someone I have only communicated with through the net materializes in reality. I first experienced that feeling back in the pre-internet era when I was a Fidonet system operator. I suppose it is not such a novelty for those who have grown up with the internet at their disposal.
For those who may not have visited the Velvet Coffeehouse before I have included this picture snapped by the Google Maps car as it rounded the SE corner of the Old Town Plaza. That fellow in the center is pointing his camera down the beginning of the alleyway leading to the Patio Market courtyard; the coffee shop is all the way at the end. I'll be there at 9:30 on Saturday morning.

Whatever
Wish I could be there! If you don't know my friend Gloria Valencia, she has a jewelry studio in Old Town called Red Earth Spirit. It's about a 5 minute walk from the cafe (400A San Felipe NW). Pop in, say hello and marvel at her gorgeous jewelry -- she also has a few of my photos on her walls

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll look her up.

Wish I could be there, we’re still on the road, returning from San Antonio. Gloria is a relative, great artist. Have fun; perhaps I’ll make the next meet up.

I'll have more time to get input on the when and where for the next meeting.
I saw at APUG that you were doing meet-ups some time ago in Albuquerque, so I'll appreciate any ideas you have on the subject.
btw: congrats on the anniversary.

The Meet-Up of New Mexico Film Photographers at the Velvet Coffeehouse in Albuquerque's Old Town this morning was great fun. Eight people attended and several more messaged their disappointment at being unable to attend due to being on the road or at work. Lots of good information exchanged about film techniques and resources for film photography in Albuquerque and elsewhere. Plans are in development for another meet-up in about a month. Suggestions are welcome regarding place, date, time and topics.

Sorry I missed this. The Velvet is my favorite coffee house in my favorite part of the city. We were next door last nite at The Yucca Gallery for an art opening too.

I just returned from 2 weeks away for work, so I was in no shape to jump back on the road to get there for this.
Keep us posted on the next one please, sounds like fun.

I'll be happy to put anyone on the mailing list to be notified of the next meet-up.
I did post notices here and in several forums and discussion groups, but the threads scroll off the screen pretty quickly.
I thought we got off to a pretty good start, but I'm hoping for even a better turnout for the next meet-up.
If there is interest in doing some meet-ups in places other than Albuquerque, let me know and I would be happy to do some traveling around the state to get things going. Send me an email address if you want receive notices of upcoming meet-ups. Email addresses will not be shared or used for any other purpose. I would also encourage people to make use of the discussion feature in the New Mexico Film Photographers Flickr group as it is a lot easier to manage communication there.

Is Camera and Darkroom still in business? I need to sell some film cameras (R6.2, Pentax 645, Leica M's) and it is a great store. I have not been to ABQ in almost a year and I used to get up there every couple of months. I have met a couple film users here in ELP.
Anyone else going to the LHSA shoot in Santa Fe 20-22 April?

Camera and Darkroom still has a couple of stores, one in Santa Fe and one in Albuquerque. The Albuquerque store, formerly near the UNM and Kurt's, moved about a year ago to 2530 Washington St. NE just off Menaul. The store has a large inventory of classic cameras including Leica, Pentax and Olympus. The store also has a pretty good selection of film, chemistry and camera accessories.
