I just received my M8 along with a 49mm B+W IR filter on Wednesday, and I had some questions. I have taken a few photos with the filter on the two lenses that I have that take a 49mm filter -- 75mm f/2 and a version 3 28/2.8. I know that the 75/2 pretty much does not flair on its own, and the 28/2.8 is fairly flare resistant. That said, I have taken two shots in contre jour situations that have flared badly. The one with the 75/2 had a red fringe, while the other had a greenish tint. I think both of these colors came from the filter, as I never see this flare pattern in normal photos. My question is whether these filters are multi-coated, or if the flare is from them. If it is, does B+W make an MRC version, or could they be persuaded to. As for Leica, do they plan on coating the filters they are making? What about Heliopan? has their effectiveness been confirmed?
Anyway, here are the photos. Not great shots, just to demonstrate the effect.
Please no snide comments on the M8 or the IR issues. I don't really care whether you like the camera, hate it, or think you are a better person for owning it or not owning it. I just want answers to this specific question.
Cheers,
Stuart
P.S. ISO 1250 is pretty impressive in black and white! This is just a mirror shot, but the grain and tonality impress me. That was the 28/1.9 CV...
The rings under my eyes are not from the IR, I just often have a Benicio del Toro effect...I always look strung out in that way.
