Arista II B&W Film

I had a message on my machine yesterday evening when I came home. Freestyle had called to ask if I still wanted the backordered Arista II 400 film I'd ordered weeks ago. Here's what I found out:

The film is clearing Customs now and should be available for shipping by 13 June. I'd ordered a 100 feet roll of ISO 400 and the sales lady confided that it was made by Agfa. Could I also add a bulk roll of the ISO 100? Sure.

So now I have two 100 feet rolls of Agfa film on the way. If made by Agfa, I'm betting it's their APX-100 & APX-400 film re-badged as Arista II. It's priced at $24.99 & $27.99.

Just thought the RFF family should know about it.

I was looking at Freestyle, they say it was from a manufacturer in Hungary. Is that Agfa?

Arista II is not the same film as Arista...

Yes, they are made in different places.

Rover, have another look at Freestyle's web site. The Arista II IOS 100 & 400 are both stated to be made by a "major manufacturer in Germany". The sales lady told me it was Agfa.

Original Arista is ISO 125 & 400 and is made by Ilford in England. (Their ad doesn't say anything about the source of Arista but it's been made in England for years.)

The new EDU Ultra films are made in the Czech Republic as clearly stated in their ad. I would guess that to be Foma.

If any of their store-brand products are made in Hungary, I haven't seen it stated as such.

I am torn between sticking with my Kodak (I am happy with Tri X and very impressed the first few rolls of Plus X that I have used) and experimenting with lots of films. Being lazy, I will probably just stick with what I have been using.

Edu is Foma and Foma 200 is GORGEOUS -- stunning tonality. But the ISO 200 is true only in speed increasing developers (Foma's own literature). The speed is almost identical to Ilford FP4 ie 200 in DDX or similar down to 80 in Perceptol or similar; I normally reckon on 125 or 160 depending on the developer.
