It just struck me that I can find no review of the A&A silk camera straps such as the one shown on my M3 in my avatar.

Would like to get some feedback on real world usage of these straps!

Thank you again for your kind assistance,

you want a review of a strap you own?

first thought to my mind...maybe write one?
just sayin' ;)

negative #1 about that strap...too bloody short!
at least make them in various lengths...

Ha, ha! Joe, nope, don't own that particular camera strap. Bought the camera naked from Jon a few years ago.:p

The length being short is one of the questions I have. Just wonder how short? Anyone care to measure one of theirs and I can compare to what I am used to?:)

Dave,

I have a nice black one on my M7 that I got back in March and I couldn't be more pleased. Although pricey I find it very comfortable for all-day use on an M body, whether using it as a neck strap or winding it around the forearm for faster shooting. As for length, doesn't seem too short to me.

Pleased with yours?

Birthday present?:) Sounds really nice!

Would love to know how long the strap is because different people have different torso measurements, arm lengths, etc.

I'll check mine when I get home later. A&A web site lists them as being 940mm, or 37 inches.

i don't like wearing a strap on my neck but prefer it across my chest (and over the belly) and 37 inches just doesn't work for me.
keep in mind i have a 62 inch gordy strap that is just perfect!!

the a&a silks are absolutely stunningly gorgeous and i would love to own one...

i wish someone made round straps that were longer and more affordable...

I don't think it would work for a "cross-chest" style, correct.

That would be fantastic!

Joe, I just checked my custom leather strap that works good for me at 45". Maybe a couple more would have been nice as I like the position across the chest too.

I second your wishes about a longer, and more affordable, silk strap! They are absolutely the best looking on the market.

i would take one made from strong but soft rope...

I had my leather strap made at a tack shop using a horse rein. Cost, including trimming the ends, making loops and adding a nickel "bolt" through it... $30.00, and, if I remember correctly, the reins were much longer than 45", available in brown, black, plain, decorative, etc. Very classy.:)

maybe this weekend i'll check out ropes at a climbing shop...cut to size...a knot at each end and bam! a new strap!!

I have the silver one and I love it. Not very long but just right for me since I wear it around my neck.

"I had my leather strap made at a tack shop using a horse rein."

I've been making mine from reins for years. Yours looks first rate, thick and stiff. . . has it softened up in use?

Yes, Fred...it is really soft and quite nice to use. I have it attached directly to the camera. The old Leica case is used to protect the finish when I am working outdoors as I tend to sweat in the 96F heat! When on vacation or indoors, I take the half case off and just use the strap on the camera. Very sturdy and much better than the black Leica strap I have been using lately.:)

If I can't get used to a 37" silk strap, then I may just have another leather one made, this time in black and try to find a reasonably inexpensive black half case.

A better bet may be a marine rigging shop, I believe you can get more supple rope there, and a larger selection of sizes and colors.

The best looking rope would be double braid and you want to put an eye splice in each end and use a split ring or snap. To do this you need a set of splicing "fids"; they come with instructions for making the splice. Or you could pay the shop to splice it - probably $10-15. The end result will be a very nice, clean looking splice.

A simpler, less elegant, approach is to use 3 braid twisted rope. No tools, other than a knife and cigarette lighter, are needed for the splice, and it is not as clean looking. But a splice can be completed in about 5 minutes. It may be hard to find a color other than white in 3 braid.
