ASA ISO and Din

I'm sure this is not a new request but I can't seem to get the search feature to work for me......anyway, does anyone have or know where I might get a chart that compares ISO, ASA and Din? I have a few vintage cameras/light meters that use Din only.

I'm glad to see that chart says ISO and ASA are the same. I've been using the terms interchangeably for years. I say asa when I want to impress oldsters. I say iso when I want younger photogs to know what I'm talking about.

Chris, I don't know how old you are, but I might be considered an "oldster" at 50. I have to confess that I've struggled with changing the terminology, since I grew up using ASA. And now I almost feel a rebellious need to preserve the "Age of ASA" by speaking it whenever I can.

Well, I don't like to admit my real age, but I grew up in the ASA days and most of my cameras say ASA and not ISO. 🙂

I seem to recall when they changed over from ASA to ISO that there was a picky technical difference in how ASA and ISO were computed, but that they were essentially the same and within most margins of error.

I also recall that the ISO rating is a "suggestion" and that some manufacturers vary somewhat from the standard.

Marke, I know exactly what you mean. I think ASA and sometimes remember to speak ISO. For a while, when India used to import film only from Eastern Europe, one had to convert GOST speed ratings into ASA or DIN.

Hey DMR...I too grew up with ASA and I still use that term when talking about film speed...if the youngsters don't understand what I'm talking about let them look it up...😀😉😎

Being pedantically, the ISO standard always includes the ASA *and* the DIN number, so it's ISO 100/21°, which is equivalent to 100 ASA and 21° DIN.
