A few months ago, I was walking in my neighborhood in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana, taking pictures to test a camera I had bought. This fat cat was sitting on a porch, so I stopped to photograph him. He ran out and began to rub my legs and purr before I could get a photo, so I petted him and he seemed really friendly. Until I stopped petting him. Then the S.O.B. turned around and tore open my hand! I jumped up and he began to rub my legs again! I pushed him away with my foot; I wasn’t petting him after he attacked me. As I walked away, he jumped at my legs and attacked them too!
I saw him out again last week, so I walked down and took some photos of him, which he allowed this time. The old man who owned him came out and told me that he had found the cat as a stray in Ohio ten years ago. He laughed when I told him about the cat attacking me the first time I saw it, and he told me that the cat had always had a bad attitude!

Lovely Chris. What film, developer etc? The tonality is lovely, especially now I know that this kitty is savage.

I don't care what attitudes there can be about cat photos, I like them and this is a good one, thanks for posting and the story along with it. Sometimes the next best thing to taking photos is what goes on in between.

The film is Arista Premium 400 (Tri-X), EI-320, developed normally in D-76 1+1. My normal Developing time for Tri-X is 9.75 minutes, 68 degrees (20c), with agitation first 30 seconds then 4 inversions of the tank every minute.
In such harsh light, I normally develop N-1 (7 minutes, with the film shot at EI-160), but it was the last shot on the roll and the sun had suddenly come out so I shot it anyway. I had to burn in some parts of his fur to keep detail and the shadows went black but I liked the result. The neg actually had detail in the background but I liked it better blacked down as I edited it and tried different curves (its a scan from the neg).
Camera was a Leica M6 with 50mm Summicron with built in hood, the current version.

My girlfriend's mum's cat is like that, she'll let you come up and pet her no problem but don't take your hand away too soon or you'll have a few marks to remember her by. Enjoyed the story, and could relate!

Ah, the dreaded Passive-Aggressive Cat. I was owned by a PAC for several years; thankfully all subsequent cats in my household(s) were less quirky-tempered.
However, Passive-Aggressive Dogs, in my experience, can do a lot more damage.
Great photo: the cat even has a glint of go-ahead-make-my-day in the eyes.
Hope your hand healed okay, Chris!

Everyone used to think that my grandfather's old cat, Molly, worked for the Devil. She lived to be 19 years old, and in that time is known to have killed more than 6000 other animals! Her kills included at least two Rattlesnakes
When grandpa got a big dog, she jumped up on top of the cage it was in, reached through the bars, and tried to claw the dog's face up. A few days later, she did it again and succeeded in ripping his nose up so bad that he needed to go to the vet for stitches. For months after the dog arrived, she would poop in the dog's food bowl whenever he went outside!
One time, my mother (who loved being mean to animals) pulled Molly's tail. The cat shot her a nasty look then walked away. Mom says "I can't believe that b---- let me live". The cat didn't forget her. A few minutes later, I caught Molly climbing up the back of the chair that my mother was sitting in at grandpa's house. her hair was standing up and her showing...she intended to attack! When she saw me, she jumped down and ran off.
Molly also attacked the neighbor's pit bull and tore its face up really bad. The dog wasn't bothering her, it was locked in a fenced yard. She climbed a fencepost and jumped on the dog to attack it!
Evil though she was, she loved my grandpa and she loved me...as long as I didn't feed or pet the hated dog!

Molly as a young cat, in 1995.

Before grandpa died in 2008
Molly died on April 23, 2010 at the age of 19. She had outlived Grandpa by one year and four months. Mice, Chipmunks, Rabbits, Snakes, and Dogs everywhere rejoiced.

Thanks - the light, greater development than you'd normally give it and the scan makes it look like it might have been developed in Rodinal. The tonality looks very similar to some of your dolls house series.

I'm convinced Chris, that cat claws secrete some sort of venom that inhibits healing.

I've had cats and do not dislike them; but I find dogs less unpredictable. My present dog, Pappu, begins to lick his privates whenever I aim a camera at him.

Great photos and stories, Chris, that first cat looks like it's planning its next move.
We have two female cats who are normally docile and affectionate but with PAC tendencies - they vent their displeasure whenever we go away overnight by pooping everywhere but in their litter tray. And only then.
I also think one has deviant tendencies. She lies in wait while I change clothes and then dives into the empty trousers. She also keeps trying to shove her head into my brother-in-law's armpit every time he visits. He's used to it now.
